Wandy Rodriguez, scheduled to make his first start for the #Pirates Saturday, chats with the media in Houston twitter.com/Pirates/status…

— Pittsburgh Pirates (@Pirates) July 26, 2012

Rodriguez will indeed make his first Pirates start on Saturday against his old team.

The addition of Rodriguez shakes up the rotation a bit. Kevin Correia is off to the bullpen for now, according to Michael Sanserino. This is a pleasant surprise to me; I had a feeling the Pirates would want to give him another start since he’s won five in a row, but removing him for now is still the right move. He will pitch in long relief, and would presumably be the first guy back in the rotation should somebody get hurt. I would also imagine the Bucs will shop him agressively up until the deadline.

Correia will be available out of the ‘pen starting on Saturday. Brad Lincoln will move into a later-innings role, which I also think is a good move.

Erik Bedard will be pushed back to Monday (he’d be on pace to pitch Sunday) so the Bucs don’t throw lefties back-to-back. The new rotation (beginning tonight) will look like this: Burnett, Karstens, Rodriguez, McDonald, Bedard.
