Good news for Washington Nationals fans everywhere, Bryce Harper is starting his comeback. Starting Tuesday, Harper will begin rehab at Class A Potomac. This is early even in Harper’s opinion. Before the Rockies game on Saturday Harper believed he wouldn’t be ready until at least Wednesday or Thursday. After a positive practice Monday at Nationals Park, the Nats organization decided he could begin playing without worrying about further injury to his left knee. The outfielder was hitting line drives during batting practice and looked solid as he was running the bases. Harper has been sidelined since May 26th with bursitis in his knee after colliding with the scoreboard in Dodger Stadium. Harper said he wants to play at least six games in the minors to bring his swing back before returning. Nationals Manager Davey Johnson thinks it’ll take fewer for Harper to get back to his original self. Harper is very excited to start in Potomac. Not only because he will be playing baseball again but he will be reunited with former teammates and former manager Brian Daubauch, his first professional manager. He could also go up against his brother Bryan, a left-handed reliever at Hagerstown. If everything goes well in Potomac, it is speculated Harper could be back in his 34 jersey in time for the weekend series with the New York Mets at Citi Field.
