Alfonso Soriano is partying in pinstripes like it’s 2002.  That being the year he busted out his power stick for the Yankees (for 39 HR) in his first stint with the team.  “The Fons” has been on a home run tear the past 24-hours, highlighted Wednesday with a first inning grand slam against the Los Angeles Angels 3-time All-Star Jered Weaver.  Watch as Weaver reacts to the inevitable, gonna be a bad day at the office  (via YES Network, via MLB.com) After clubbing a two-run double in the 2nd inning (also off Weaver), he then hit a second home run in the 5th (of Weaver) for a career game high 7 RBI in Wednesday.  This after he hit two bombs on Tuesday night, a two-run shot to left field, and a three-run blast to right field.  All fields, now with the “home run cycle”, a solo, 2-run, 3-run, and slam.  Total line score 5-8, 4 HR, 13 RBI.  In 24 hours! While still lagging almost 10 games back of the first place Boston Red Sox, the Yankees did make one of the most effective trade deadline acquisitions in Soriano.  A deal that made too much sense for a Cubs team looking to get rid of him for just about nothing (with check pinned to his uniform), and a Yankees team, where he started, thirsty for anyone who was healthy and especially with power.  For what it’s worth, the (cash-strapped?) Yankees are paying him $1.8M this year, and $3M next year.  The Cubs covering the rest $29.2M, including when he played for them this year.  With some key bats returning from health issues (Mark Teixeira, Curtis Granderson, and Derek Jeter) and this additional bat, the Yankees may not be that far off of a 2014 run at the AL East.  If they can ink the free-agent diamond of the 2014 class, Robinson Cano.
