New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter thought he had a bases clearing double after he launched a ball to deep center against the Detroit Tigers on Monday evening. New Tigers center fielder Ezequiel Carrera, who is replacing the recently traded Austin Jackson, had other ideas.
It’s unknown whether Carrera actually held on to the baseball as he went sliding into the warning track dirt, but the call stayed as an out.
In any event, this has to be one of the top-10 plays in baseball this year.

Ezequiel Carrera in his first-game since being called up from Triple-A, made one of the catches of the year Monday against the New York Yankees. Jacoby Ellsbury hit a deep fly ball to center field with the bases loaded in the third inning, but Carrera, who is replacing recently traded Austin Jackson, made the diving […]

The Detroit Tigers may have lost to the New York Yankees 2-1, but they may have found something better than one game. They may have found their new center fielder. After playing 97 games in AAA Toledo and hitting .307 with 43 steals, this was Ezequiel Carrera’s third game with the Tigers and first start. All Carrera did was this (mlb.com).

Ezequiel Carrera's diving catch Monday night is already being called the best defensive play of the 2014 season. The Tigers centerfielder robbed a bases-loaded double — possibly a bases-clearing triple — from Yankees' Jacoby Ellsbury in the third inning at Yankee Stadium and had everyone from pitcher Matt Scherzer to the hot dog guy dropping their jaws in amazement.And...
Two of the smaller pieces that stand to gain value after Thursday's massive trade deadline are Tiger center fielders Ezequiel Carrera and Rajai Davis. The two will see all of the starts in center now that Austin Jackson has been traded. Davis should see the majority of playing time between the two speedsters, but Carrera could still be good for SAGNOF in some deep leagues...
Making his first start for the Detroit Tigers, center fielder Ezequiel Carrera turned in one of the catches of the year.
With the bases loaded and nobody out, Carrera made a diving grab at the warning track in deep center to rob Jacoby Ellsbury of extra bases. The catch kept the Yankees from a huge inning, though a run did score on the play.

As exciting as it was for the Tigers to get David Price at the trade deadline, there was something of a pause among Detroit fans when Austin Jackson was revealed to be part of the deal. Sure, some of that was fan affection, but the concern was that losing Jackson’s glove in center field could become an issue.
One of the replacements for Jackson will be Ezequiel Carrera, freshly...
When a major-league team gets good pitching and spectacular defense on the same night, they usually go on to win the game.
That's even more true when it is the Tigers -- a team built around a powerful offense.
Monday, though, wasn't one of those nights. Max Scherzer allowed two runs in seven innings, Ezequiel Carrera made one of the best catches of the season and Ian Kinsler...
It’s been quite the week for highlight-reel catches.
Detroit Tigers rookie Ezequiel Carrera has been making the rounds on “SportsCenter” for his full-extension grab Monday night at Yankee Stadium, but a play a center fielder in the independent Can-Am League made last Thursday might have Carrera beat.
That’s Alonzo Harris, a former New York Mets minor leaguer currently...
Derek Jeter has always been one to love the ladies. Jeter’s pretty renown for keeping his love life away from the cameras, but alas no one’s perfect, as Jeter was caught on camera making some pretty intense stares at this passing blonde.
Now, there’s word that the blonde in question is YES Network on-field reporter, Meredith Marakovits. Why the long flirtatious stare? Who...

Making his first start of the season, the 27-year-old made sure we know his name by making an incredible catch in the bottom of the third inning. Jacoby Ellsbury, and probably […]
DETROIT -- Detroit Tigers reliever Joba Chamberlain is returning to New York for a four-game series beginning Monday night with the Yankees who raised him. He's looking forward to many things, but one meeting in particular is occupying his thoughts.
"I really, really hope I get a chance to face Derek," said Chamberlain, who was Derek Jeter's teammate from 2007 through...

Re2pectable snag by the 40-year-old Captain.
On April 29, Justin Verlander pitched 7 innings of 3 run ball, and started a run of 7 quality starts in 8 games, during an 8 game Tiger winning streak. “Quality Start” is not descriptive enough, as the Tigers’ staff allowed 3 runs or less in 6 of those 8 games.
On May 12, Porcello turned in a 6 inning, 5 hit, 1 ER performance which launched a 6 game winning streak which saw...
(Photo by Darren McCollester/Getty Images)Allen Webster was handed a 3-0 lead, but the kid (mostly through wildness) could not hold it. And, thanks to a typical cheap Derek Jeter bloop to right, the comeback process started, leading to a 6-4 loss to The Bronx Embalmers. New Sox OF Yoenis Cespedes went 1-4. Of course, newly-minted Pinstriped Poser Stephen Drew had an RBI double. Mike...
