Found January 13, 2013 on We Should Be GM's:
Did you read/hear the big news?  Ruben Amaro inked Rodrigo Lopez to a minor league contract.  That's right, he's back!Rodrigo was with the Phillies in 2009 and appeared in 7 games, having started 5 of them and winning 3 of them.  Career stats: 81-89, 257 G, 215 GS, 1350.2 IP, 865 K, 4.82 ERA, and a 1.42 WHIP.  He is 37 years old and right-handed.He's nothing more than a veteran presence at Triple-A and organizational depth.  Having traded away Vance Worley from the MLB rotation and Trevor May from the minor league rotation, the Phils needed a guy like this.

Philadelphia Phillies storyline: The missing piece

There is a new possibility on the trading market for the Philadelphia Phillies to pursue:  Mike Morse.  Will Rube Amaro easily dismiss this opportunity?   TAL’S HANDY CAPS WELCOME, NEWCOMERS:  My articles are designed to represent a baseball man’s thinking, the view from the dugout and the GM’s box. Most fans do not consider the budget, prospects on the radar, the team’s...

Phillies sign Rodrigo Lopez

The Philadelphia Phillies have signed pitcher Rodrigo Lopez to a minor-league deal, Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports. If Lopez makes the team, he will earn $1mm plus incentives. Lopez appeared in only 4 games for the Cubs last season going 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA and a career low 2.9 K/9. He spent most of the season at Triple-A where he went 5.28 ERA and 6.8 K/9. What if every Phillies player matched their best seasons in 2013?

Imagine for a second a world in which Carlos Ruiz hits .325, Ryan Howard hits 58 bombs, Chase Utley knocks in 100 runs, Rollins recreates his MVP season, Michael Young leads the league in hits, and Darin Ruf and Domonic Brown live up to the hype. In this imaginary land, Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee are Cy Young candidates once again, Cole Hamels has a 2.79 ERA, and Kyle Kendrick has a 3.22 ERA....

Phillies Odds and Ends: Hairston unlikely, platoon’s set, Ruf the man

Darin Ruf, Phillies everyday left fielder? The Phillies appear that they have their outfield set for the 2013 season. The trade talk as dwindled down quite a bit in the last month and the names left, well there are few. The last of the names being Scott Hairston, is just a name and a highly unlikely signing. If you think the Phillies have their eyes on him, well take a good look...

Holy crap the Phillies have made a move. According to Fernando Ballesteros at the Mexican baseball magazine Puro Beisbol, the Phillies have signed 37-year-old Rodrigo Lopez to a minor league deal. Lopez, who is signing on for his second stint with the Phillies, last played for the team in 2009....

Off-season League Notes: 1/13/13

It’s time, once again, to travel around the globe as we review how Phillies talents are performing in off-season and winter leagues.  Be warned that news is becoming quite limited, as the closer things get to spring training, the less there is to report. In the Caribbean Leagues, teams have begun playing in their second wave of the season, as the top four teams from the Dominican...

Why I Love the Phillies – Donna

I can’t say when my love for the Phils began, just as I can’t say when I started to talk, walk, and all of the other important things that are basic in life. They have always been there, as essential as breathing. I could say I love them because I was born in Philly, but then I should feel the same for the Eagles, Sixers, and Flyers, but I don’t. Baseball appeals to me in an...

Aumont, Gillies, Orr Named to Team Canada

Aumont will be joined by teammates Gillies and Orr on Team Canada's 23-man roster. Canada was among the first countries to submit their provisional 23-man World Baseball Classic rosters and it has a distinctly Phillies’ flavor. Reliever Phillippe Aumont will look to recreate the magic of his 2009 appearance on Team Canada and is joined by Phillies OF prospect Tyson Gillies...
