Major League Baseball suffered another black eye, this one comes at the hands of Melky Cabrera, the San Fransisco Giants outfielder. Cabrera received a 50 game suspension for testing positive for testosterone. This comes almost 2 months to the day of Roger Clemens being acquitted on all charges that he obstructed and lied to Congress in denying he used performance-enhancing drugs to extend his long career as one of the greatest and most-decorated pitchers in baseball history.

What is wrong with these people? Do guys like Melky think they can take these substances and for some reason the MLB doping tests aren’t going to detect them in their system? Over the past several years with all the publicity given to guys taking band substances, you would think these players would smarten up. Sure the fans want to go to games and see guy that can blast the ball out of the park. The fans don’t want to see records being recorded that are tainted by the use of illegal substances.

Major League Baseball has tested these players for year, and sooner or later they are going to get busted using. The players just don’t learn. Are these guys who are making millions of dollars a year to play a game most played for free as they were growing up not god enough to play without using? If that is the case they have no business being in the Major Leagues. Until baseball steps up and starts issuing lifetime suspensions, these guys who like pushing the limits are going to continue to use.

Who knows what these guys are thinking, maybe a guy like Cabrera who is up for free agency thought he would get more money in his next contract if he produced numbers that were aided by the use of illegal substances. Melky Cabrera was going to make 6 million dollars this season. Think about that, 6 million dollars is $37,037.00 per game. Now with a fifty game suspension he will surrender $1,851,851.00 of his salary.

Cabrera used a band substance and now it is going to cost him almost 2 million dollars. What is the cost to Major League Baseball? Some teams are reporting lower revenues and guys like Cabrera who have to cheat could be the cause of the problems. These greedy players won’t be happy until they bring down M.L.B.. People are getting tired of the constant cheating….. All Melky Cabrera did today was turn out to be one more Giant disappointment.
