One is the Loneliest Number:
Tyler Skaggs is in an interesting place in his baseball career. It seems to happen to many youngsters, often times more so to pitchers. Skaggs is in a weird little spot where he’s outgrown the minor leagues, but hasn’t shown the type of performance in the majors consistently enough to justify his unconditional stay with the big league club.
BEST OF MAXIM
Team: Arizona Diamondbacks
Record: 50-45 (1st Place)
Biggest Surprise of First Half:
The Diamondbacks are in first place, and they should consider themselves very fortunate to be in this position. They play in a weak very division, and are the only team that over .500.
The biggest surprise is that despite their record, they have one of the worst bullpens in baseball. They have 19...
It’s no secret that Ian Kennedy has struggled in the first half, carrying a 5.42 ERA, good for second worst among National League starters, into the All-Star break. But following his loss on Sunday to the Brewers, manager Kirk Gibson was asked about the rotation’s order heading into the second half. Per Arizona Sports 620′s Kyndra de St. Aubin, Gibson will use Kennedy in the...
With 40 percent of their starting rotation down, the Diamondbacks will be excited to get at least half of their injured starters back soon, as Brandon McCarthy is set to begin rehabbing later this week. Jack Magruder reported it on Twitter Sunday morning, saying manager Kirk Gibson wants to see at least two starts before his return to the big leagues.
PHOENIX -- When Kirk Gibson makes a mound visit, it usually is to make a pitching change. This one was to make a point. Strongly.
Gibson looked Ian Kennedy in the eye and delivered a message that lip readers might not want to pass along to their children when he went out in the second inning Sunday, after Kennedy had permitted seven of the Brewers' first 12 batters to reach...
PHOENIX The Arizona Diamondbacks have raised 705,395 in support of the families of the 19 firefighters who perished fighting the Yarnell fire as well as members of the community who have been affected by the fires.
The money was raised in various fundraising efforts that began two days after the June 30 tragedy and throughout the D-backs 10-game homestand. The funds raised throughout...
Goldschmidt and Corbin are huge reasons why the D-Backs remain in first in the NL West.
While there were many good individual performances, no organization had more impressive showings from their group of prospects than the Arizona Diamondbacks did at today’s All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field.
Patrick Corbin has been one of the more fascinating players of the 2013 season to me. He did not get much publicity coming into the 2013 campaign and was even battling Randall Delgado in Spring Training for the last spot in the DBacks rotation. Corbin’s been a bonafide ace in the first half. Corbin had an ADP of 260 in ESPN leagues and currently ranks 18th on their player rater...
The long road back to the mound for Brandon McCarthy, appears to finally have an end in sight. The lanky right-hander will report to Triple-A Reno this weekend, to make the first of at least two projected rehab starts after being out of action since May 31st, with shoulder inflammation.
After successfully completing a 65-pitch simulated game on Sunday, the next step on the agenda...
The former 21 game winner has definitely had a roller coaster of a first half. After another disappointing outing against Milwaukee yesterday, he is 3-6 with a 5.42 ERA. Typically selected somewhere between rounds 10-12 in drafts during the preseason, Kennedy's numbers are just unacceptable to this point. Control, or lack thereof, is the main issue of concern. So far, his BB...
Almost get blown up, Randy Johnson Style
Matt Davidson of the Arizona Diamondbacks hit a two-run homer and the United States beat the World Team 4-2 on Sunday in the All-Star Futures Game, baseball's annual showcase for top minor league prospects.
The opening event for three days of All-Star festivities at Citi Field, the Futures Game certainly had a New York Mets flavor to it in the team's home ballpark. Two of...
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Kyle Lohse benefited from a stray pigeon flying in front of Arizona Diamondbacks batter A.J. Pollock. You can see the reaction from Pollock as he is obviously distracted by the feathered intruder. A called strike.
The post Kyle Lohse Utilizes A Pigeon For A Strike On A.J. Pollock appeared first on Baseball Hot Corner.
The Diamondbacks will head into the break with a division lead and 50 wins, despite failing to complete a four game sweep of the Brewers Sunday, losing 5-1. The 10-game homestand finished off 6-4, including a sweep of the Rockies and winning three of four against the Brewers, sandwiched around that Dodger sweep.
So, work conspired against me this week and I’m a day late, but hopefully not a dollar short. We haven’t seen any huge trades yet, but as we head into the All-Star break, we could start to see some movement as teams look to solidify the pen with a run into October as the goal. We’ve got a lot of quick hitters below so let’s dive right in.
