[Box Score] [Cincinnati.com] I knew trailing 6-5 in the 9th, that if the Reds could get Joey Votto to the plate that they would win the ballgame. All that needed to happen was Chris Heisey reaching base. By the way I had seen Votto going earlier in the day, it didn’t matter how hard Henry Rodriguez was throwing. His fastball was simply too straight to sneak past Votto three times with the bases loaded and the game on the line. And it was a big ballgame. The Reds again salvage a miracle contest on getaway day to improve their record to 10-1 in such contests. For as many friends that want to text message me and tell me that “the Reds had no business winning this game,” I say in rebuttal that the Reds show what is at their core in these types of contests. Teams continue to let them off the hook in the final frame, and the Reds continue to scrap out tough wins that good teams find a way to win. Now, I had no idea that Votto would hit a dramatic walk-off grand slam into the center field...

Votto’s bat goes to HOF just 18 years before he does

Joey Votto made history yesterday, and Cooperstown took notice. Though his three-homer performance against the Washington Nationals wasn’t a first (heck, Votto has done it before himself), it was the first time one of those three home runs was a walk-off grand slam. The … [visit site to read more]

Reds Ride Votto to Victory

The Cincinnati Reds (17-16) hosted the Washington Nationals (21-13) in the final game of a short three game home stand. The Redlegs were trying to avoid a sweep and continue their getaway day magic. The team definitely avoided a sweep and did so in dramatic come from behind fashion with a 9-6 victory. Let's take a look at how the game unfolded with the good, the bad, and...

Cincinnati slips two spots in latest power rankings

Not even Votto could prevent the Reds from slipping in the rankings After creeping up to the 12th spot in ESPN's MLB Power Rankings last week, the Reds fell two spots to 14th in the latest batch released on Monday. That's not too surprising considering they needed a herculean effort from Joey Votto on Sunday to avoid getting swept at home by the Nationals. They...

Votto hits 3 HRs, including walk-off slam

Joey Votto hit a grand slam in the ninth inning for his third home run of the game, rallying the Cincinnati Reds to a rain-delayed 9-6 victory over the Washington Nationals on Sunday. Votto hit solo homers in his first two at-bats and finished a big day with his second career slam with two outs in the ninth. Washington came into the game with only 15 homers allowed all season,...

Video: Another look at Votto's walkoff slam

Your browser does not support iframes. Here's the last of Joey Votto's three home runs on Sunday. I'm still in awe. The guy is simply amazing.

Can one bat keep you in the game?

In steps Joey Votto, already has two home runs and a double in the game. The Reds are down one in the bottom of the ninth and the bases are loaded. 2 balls and 2 strikes and Joey gets a high fastball. Walk off grand slam. VIDEO On a day when most of the Reds were struggling at the plate, Votto comes through with 4 hits (3 home runs and a double) and 6 RBI’s. The Reds also picked...

Joey Votto is looking to build on his best - and most dramatic - performance of the season for the Cincinnati Reds. The NL East-leading Atlanta Braves are trying to continue their own impressive production at the plate. Marlins, Reds both win with walk-off grand slams on Mother’s Day

The Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton and the Reds’ Joey Votto both delivered big on Mother’s Day. And not just to Mom either. The two combined for a pair of walk-off grand slams, which hasn’t occurred in over 14 years. The last two to do so were Mo Vaughn of the Red Sox and Steve Finley of the Padres. For Stanton, his slam came in much more dramatic fashion, finishing off an unlikely...

Vottomatic!

Lack of protection in the lineup has caused opponents to pitch around former MVP Joey Votto and limited his HR total to two through his first 32 games. Sunday he showed why that is not a bad option when he had the second three-homer game of his career capped off with a walk-off grand slam.

Reds Week in Review 5/7 to 5/13

The Reds this past week played a total of six games with one off day on Thursday. Their first series was a matchup in Milwaukee against the division foe Brewers followed by a short three game home stand in which Bryce Harper and the Nationals came to town. Let's see how the past week went for the Redlegs. Record for the Week: 3-3 Overall Record: 17-16 Standings: The...

The Daily Brief: Going for the sweep in Atlanta

Last Game The Reds took the first game of the two-game series against the Atlanta Braves. Homer Bailey pitched, Chris Heisey and Brandon Phillips got RBI, and the Reds won 3-1. Next Game The Reds finish the short series against the Braves tonight at 7:10 p.m. Normally I wouldn’t be too optimistic about such a game, but it’s Johnny Cueto and his 4-0 record and his 1.12 ERA going...
