PLAYERS: RA DickeyDavid Wright
TEAMS: New York Mets
It is a tiny bit surprising that we do not have any kind of idea how the Mets are going to handle their two biggest starts — R.A. Dickey and David Wright. Sure, the club picked up the option on both players but would it really be a surprise if either one or both of those players were elsewhere come Opening Day? There has been very little concrete news about which direction the club will go in – only speculation about free agents that the Mets simply cannot afford. So, let’s see how you feel about the direction the Mets should take with these two stars. For the purpose of this exercise, assume a deal for either player would be a “fair” trade, meaning that neither the Mets nor their trading partner would feel fleeced, either today or five years from now. Cerrone: Mets and Wright $20 Million Apart

Matt Cerrone of MetsBlog says he’s heard that Sandy Alderson and David Wright are just $20 million dollars apart on a new contract extension. However, based on what I’m hearing, Wright’s camp is thinking seven years and at least $130 million guaranteed, while the Mets are thinking more like six years and around $110 million. Frankly, that’s close enough to make me confident...

Who Was The Mets Most Valuable Player In 2012, Wright Or Dickey?

There wasn’t a real lot to rave about when you consider the Mets 2012 season as a whole, but even in an 88-loss season, there were a few bright spots. We had our first No-Hitter in franchise history, we saw one of our top prospects breakthrough in a big way, and one of the Mets’ longest held traditions finally returned – Banner Day. There were also two remarkable performances...

Report: The Wilpons are extremely broke, will be forced to sell the team, and won’t extend Wright/Dickey

So… Supposedly the Mets are so broke that they’re not going to extend R.A. Dickey or David Wright. Also, supposedly, emphasis on the supposedly, the Wilpons will probably be forced to tell the team in two years or so. And… SUPPOSEDLY, buying out Jason Bay was done with the intention of passing along payroll to the next owner so that the Wilpons wouldn’t have to pay Bay...

Dickey Would Take Hometown Discount To Remain With Mets

According to what a source told Andy Martino of the Daily News, the Mets believe they can sign R.A. Dickey to a two-year contract extension, worth less than the three year, $36 million the Mets paid to Oliver Perez. Of course that doesn’t change the fact that the Mets are shopping him as is being reported by everyone at the GM Meetings, but I would have to think it does show how...

Mets seeking to trade R.A. Dickey as contract talks stall

R.A. Dickey had been talking with the New York Mets about a contract extension. Now it appears the New York Mets are fielding offers for the 38-year-old  knuckleballer. It was assumed that the Mets would make an extension with Dickey a top priority this off season. Dickey is under contract for the 2013 season afor [...] [[ This is a content summary only. R.A. Dickey Wants to Stay With Mets Despite Possibility Team Could Trade Him This Offseason

The Mets are willing to deal R.A. Dickey. Last week, Mets general manager Sandy Alderson opened up Pandora’s Box by expressing a willingness to deal the National League Cy Young Award finalist if the right opportunity came about. Speaking at a banquet over the weekend –– where he received the Branch Rickey Award –– Dickey expressed a desire to stay in New York and continue...

New York Mets won't trade Ike Davis, will listen on RA Dickey

The New York Mets have done a bit of an about-face in recent days regarding two of their more valuable trade assets. The team will not be trading first baseman Ike Davis, a decision likely spurred on by Lucas Duda's broken wrist, but will apparently be listening on NL Cy Young finalist RA Dickey. Keeping Davis around is something we've advocated since the end of the regular...

Yankees Hot Stove: RA Dickey

New York Yankees Brian Cashman is one of 30 GMs in Indian Wells, Californiaat the annual GM meetings, where the biggest news happens in hotel suites as it is considered baseball’s annual trade fair. R. A. Dickey (Photo credit: Wikipedia) GMs offer up players they are willing to listen to offers on, as trades and free-agent signings are typical with usually at least one or two blockbuster...

Mets Looking For Young Power Hitter, Won’t Trade Ike

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mets will not be trading Ike Davis, despite the original plan of possibly moving him to capitalize on his value and allow Lucas Duda to play first. Sandy Alderson has a track record of putting high value on the ability to hit for power, and if R.A. Dickey were to be traded, Alderson would be looking for a power hitter, preferably...

About That Whole “Wilpon Is Broke” Rumor

Thoughts from Joe D. Well isn’t this an interesting way to interrupt my Sunday AMC “Gory Matters Here” marathon? I’m not seeing or buying what is being reported. I hate having to rehash all this stuff again, but the Mets are getting fiscally better everyday. I already told you last month, about the new National MLB Broadcast deal that’s infuses another $40-50 million a...
