While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com. Prospect notes, as highlighted by the top star in the system: “SS Francisco Lindor (.341 1 HR 10 RBI .406/.505) Lindor has made quick work of Carolina League pitchers, a league that often favors pitchers because of the size of the league (eight teams). His 13K/10BB ratio early is very nice too for the league he’s in. He’s already off to a hot May. I predicted at some point this year that they’d have to move him to AA-Akron, but with Ronny Rodriguez in front of him right now (for the time being and having no where else to put him right now) he’ll continue to man shortstop for Carolina and haunt the league’s pitchers.” [Jusin Lada/It's Pronounced 'Lajaway'] —- Charting out the 2013 AL so far, with this note about the Tribe: “The Indians are better positioned than the Yankees, but their actual records are reversed because of differences between their runs scored/allowed and their actual wins and losses. The Yankees are 11-2 in games decided by two runs or fewer.” [Dave Studeman/The Hardball Times] —- The red-hot Indians lost for the first time in a week yesterday afternoon: “Coming into the game, the Tribe had posted a .373 team batting average with 14 homeruns since game two of their doubleheader last Sunday night. They had scored six or more runs in six straight games for the first time since 2005 and had 12 or more hits in six straight games for the first time since 1936. Pelfrey (now 3-3) and his 7.66 ERA seemed like the perfect recipe to keep the streak going, but it was not to be.” [Steve Eby/Did The Tribe Win Last Night?] —- Considering long-term game location options for the Buckeyes: “Let’s hold all the ‘but Jim Delany is going to sign Toronto and McGill to the Big Ten’ jokes for a second. If Notre Dame, Penn State and others are playing games overseas, is this something Ohio State should look into?” [Matt Brown/Land-Grant Holy Land] —- From a few days ago now, but this was an enjoyable read on the state of the Cavalier fan in Cleveland: “With the news that ESPN is planning on producing an installment of their documentary series 30 for 30 on Cleveland sports and the fans persistence through what will likely be Cleveland’s 50th year without a championship in a major sport in 2014, I found myself reflecting on the state of the Cavaliers fan base. Cleveland is, of course, a football town.” [David Zavac/Fear The Sword] —- Some strange wording and writing from this site, critiquing Terry Pluto, not just the Browns: “The Browns take issue with the criticism of the decision. According to Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, who as one league source pointed out appears to be on track to becoming one of the primary local-media mouthpieces for the new regime, the Browns simply didn’t like the players who were available to be picked at the time they swapped current picks for future picks in one higher round.” [Mike Florio/Pro Football Talk] —- Nice nod to the Browns for this undrafted free agent signing: “OT—Chris Faulk, Browns. There were a surprising number of tackle prospects with talent who went undrafted, including Nick Becton (Chargers), Luke Marquardt (49ers) and Emmett Cleary (Colts). Faulk might have been a pretty high pick if he had not blown out his knee and missed most of the 2012 season.” [Dan Pompei/National Football Post] —- Finally, it appears that several Browns players had a bit of fun at yesterday’s Indians game competing with fans at speed pitch and fraternizing on social media.
