The last time August 8th fell on a Thursday was 2002. Had Padres Public existed back then, here’s how the game summary might have read.
The Padres concluded this six-game home stand on a high note. It didn’t start out looking like they would.
Brian Lawrence started and made it into the sixth, however thanks to Rickey Ledee’s big day at the plate (double and triple) he departed down 4-0. Joe Roa, who returned to baseball this season after being out of the game for 4 years, shut out the Padres for five innings.
Then the bats woke up. Ryan Klesko’s HR scored Mark Kotsay and cut the deficit in half. Roa departed after six and, coupled with 3 2/3 innings of 1-hit relief from the Padres bullpen, the team rallied. Brian Buchanan homered in the seventh. Ron Gant tripled in the eighth, scoring Phil Nevin to tie the game. Then Gant stepped up in the bottom of the ninth and swatted a 3-run blast, giving the Padres a 7-4 win.
San Diego goes 3-3 on the home stand and have won 2 in a row. ...
