Matt Thornton did not participate in drills with the Chicago White Sox yesterday.  The pitcher has expressed discomfort with his elbow, so the team is taking no chances.  He underwent an MRI and will only participate in drills when he feels healthy enough to do so. According to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune, Thornton has been diagnosed with elbow inflammation.  The team does not think it's serious, but they are going to be cautious with the 36-year old. Gonzales suggests that with Thornton sidelined, other players are going to get a longer look this spring. Players like Donnie Veal and Hector Santiago may take on more responsibility until Thornton can pitch without issue again. Thornton is entering his 10th Major League season.  The veteran reliever has played for just two teams in his career.  He started with the Seattle Mariners but has spent the last seven seasons with the White Sox.  In is career, Thornton has a 3.51 ERA. The Differences Between Predictions and Projections

In my Monday post about the White Sox recent success beating preseason projections, I included a statement that I’ve mentioned a few times over the last few years: But also, please just keep in mind that projections are not predictions. They are a snapshot of what we think a team’s median true talent level might be, and it should be understood that there’s a pretty sizable...
