Chicago White Sox starter John Danks will miss the rest of the year due to a shoulder injury, and he'll have surgery on Monday. Danks hasn't pitched in the majors since May 19th, after which he was placed on the DL with soreness in his shoulder. An MRI taken after a rehab start revealed a torn muscle in Danks's left shoulder. Danks's tear is a grade one tear, which is the least severe. This is a pretty big deal for the White Sox, even more magnified because of the five year, $65 million contract extension they gave to Danks before the season. Shoulder surgery is nowhere near as much of an open and shut case in comparison to elbow surgery, and the White Sox now have to be wondering about the long-term health of Danks, and whether or not he'll ever regain his form as a three to five win pitcher. One break for the White Sox is that Danks is just 27 and not older. If he were in his early 30's, I'd feel a lot less secure in Danks regaining his form. Als...

Chicago's Danks to have exploratory surgery

John Danks is done for the season because of a left shoulder strain, and the Chicago White Sox starting pitcher is scheduled to have exploratory surgery Monday to find out what has caused the injury to linger for months. White Sox's Danks needs season-ending shoulder surgery

The Chicago White Sox were hoping that the final late-season addition to the rotation would come from within, with the return of left-hander John Danks from the disabled list. That won't be happening. Danks will have season-ending surgery on his left shoulder, the team announced Tuesday. He had been sidelined since May 20 due to a shoulder strain, and he experienced a setback...

Outlook for Sale, Danks remains unclear

Chris Sale doesn't know exactly when his next start is. John Danks doesn't even know if he'll pitch again this season. And Jose Quintana wished he didn't pitch as poorly as he did Monday the Chicago White Sox's 7-6 loss to the Minnesota Twins. Just another night in the soap opera that is the Chicago rotation. It was Quintana on the mound for the start of the...

Chicago White Sox Have Bounced Back, But Can They Hang On Down The Stretch?

As the month of July draws to a close, the MLB pennant and wildcard chases have only continued to rage forward. The addition of an a wildcard team has done wonders for maximizing the duration of “meaningful baseball” for many cities who, at this time last year, were having more trouble trying to draw fans than a Matisyahu concert taking place in Syria. Exactly one year ago today...

De Vries, Quintana square off again

On and off the field, the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins have done plenty of interacting over the last week. The White Sox look to win their sixth straight against the Twins on Monday night in the opener of a three-game series at Target Field. Chicago swept Minnesota at home last week as it climbed back atop the AL Central, but while the teams went their separate ways over...

Chicago White Sox: Peavy strong in series win

Not to be outdone by newcomer Francisco Liriano’s strong performance on Tuesday, Jake Peavy dominated on the mound in the series finale as the Chicago White Sox won 3-2. Peavy gave up only one earned run over eight innings. After letting up one run in each of the first two innings (one resulting from a Peavy error), the hurler crushed the Minnesota offense for the remainder of...

White Sox again push back Sale's next start

For a "dead arm," Chris Sale said that his left appendage felt alive and well hours before the Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 3-2 Wednesday afternoon, taking the rubber match of the three-game series. Even though Sale is feeling good, that didn't change the fact that manager Robin Ventura and pitching coach Don Cooper once again got together and juggled...

Twins square off with old teammate, Liriano

MINNEAPOLIS Everything about it looked strange as Francisco Liriano took the mound Tuesday. The black and gray uniform. The No. 58.Oh, and not to mention, he was pitching to A.J. Pierzynski, a catcher he was once traded for.Yet here Liriano was, making his White Sox debut three days after the Minnesota Twins traded him to rival Chicago. During his seven seasons with the Twins, Liriano...

In an attempt to bolster its starting rotation, division-leading Chicago...
