The Village of Whitefish Bay is set to bestow an honor on one of its hometown heroes. The Brewers announced Friday that Whitefish Bay will dedicate one of its parks in honor of native son and former MLB veteran Craig Counsell. "Water Tower Park" in Whitefish Bay will soon be known as "Craig Counsell Park" and is home to numerous little league teams. The ceremony will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Counsell and the Racing Sausages in attendance. Counsell is a 1988 graduate of Whitefish Bay High School and went on to play 16 seasons in the MLB, including six with Milwaukee. Retiring following the 2011 season, Counsell now serves as a Special Assistant to the General Manager for the Brewers.

Brewers turn to Greinke one more time

MILWAUKEE Before the All-Star break, Brewers pitcher Zack Greinke became just the second pitcher since 2002 to start back-to-back games when an ejection in the first inning of last Saturday's loss to Houston prompted Milwaukee to use him two days in a row. But on Friday, Greinke is bettering his own accomplishment. With the first-place Pittsburgh Pirates in town, the Brewers...

Lucroy to return to BP on Saturday

MILWAUKEE After breaking his hand in a freak suitcase accident back on May 27, it appears Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy is inching closer to a return to the team's lineup. Lucroy threw to second base from home plate on Friday and had been hitting off of a tee since Monday. He said he plans on taking live batting practice on Saturday. "It's getting pretty...

Brewers frustrated by mistakes in close game

MILWAUKEE A six-inning effort from Marco Estrada was enough to give the Brewers a one-run lead heading into the seventh inning of Saturday's game against the first-place Pirates. But as they have been for much of the season, Saturday's one-run lead wasn't very kind to the Brewers. This time, it was defensive lapses that were the cause of Milwaukee's late-inning...

Lesley Visser will run the sausage race in Milwaukee

The sausage race in Milwaukee is one of the time honored traditions in baseball, replicated around the league with various mascot related tomfoolery.  It's not too often you hear about an announcer or sideline reporter taking part in one of these things, but alas, CBS's Lesley Visser will participate in the race Friday night.  Here's how it all came about via...

Milwaukee Brewers trade rumors: selling at the deadline?

The Milwaukee Brewers are currently buried in 4th place in the NL Central, but they remain the hunt by a slim margin. They have a lot of catching up to do and must decide in the next few weeks if they are going to sell off some of their key trade deadline candidates or are [...]

A Public Service Announcement Regarding John Axford

Recently I saw a blurb on The Official Site where the closer role is discussed. While we all know John Axford has had a rough year, this is the first inkling I've heard of a closer controversy. I don't believe Ron Roenicke will be replacing Ax anytime soon, if at all, despite cries from some fans or "Twitter tough guys". Make no mistake, Axford is still the best...

Royals interested in bringing Zack Greinke back

The future of right handed pitcher Zack Greinke is still unknown. The Brewers would like to keep him long-term, but if they're unable to sign him to a multi-year contract and if the Brewers become seller, they will probably deal him. Yesterday, we learned that the Angels, Rangers, Orioles and Braves are among the teams interested in Greinke, and according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports...

Is Aramis Ramirez on the Trading Block?

Photo: Benny Sieu/US PresswireA recent report suggested the Los Angeles Dodgers could be thinking about Aramis Ramirez as a potential trade acquisition as they attempt to shore up third base and their inconsistent offense.  This news is not shocking by any means, but we haven’t heard the name of Ramirez thrown out there so much in the world of trade speculation.  Greinke has...

Cody Ransom’s grand slam buries Bucs

Final: Brewers 10, Pirates 7 WP: Francisco Rodriguez (2-4, 3.86 ERA) LP: Tony Watson (4-1, 5.00 ERA) This was just one of those really strange games. First off, it took forever (3 hours, 50 mins). Second, a lot of really good things happened for the Pirates. And third, a lot of really bad things happened for the Pirates. Unfortunately, the bad things out-weighed the good things....

All Hands on Deck to Start the Second Half

Photo: REUTERS/Darren Hauck According to GM Doug Melvin, the Milwaukee Brewers are going to see what happens in the nine-game span starting Friday, July 13 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.  How the team plays will reportedly determine whether new hands are brought on or if someone or several someones will be thrown overboard.  I think this is a very logical and pragmatic, almost...

A Quick Analysis of the Next Nine Games

Photo: Jim Prisching/AP With no actual baseball to write about, a lot of digital ink has been spilled on the long-term future of the Milwaukee Brewers, especially whether they will use the upcoming trading deadline as an opportunity to buy, sell, or do some of both. Nick Michalski, Vince from Miller Park Drunk, and the folks at Brew Crew Ball have already wrote excellent articles...
