Clint Eastwood has been a popular topic of discussion the past several days. Must be because of that new “baseball” movie he has coming out soon. That’s got to be it. Otherwise, he sure has kept a low profile lately. Speaking of Eastwood, doesn’t it seem far more realistic for him to be playing a crusty old football coach? Leather helmets, three yards and a cloud of dust, and all that? Even at 82, he could probably whoop Mark Sanchez with one arm tied behind his back. What’s that? Oh, right, sorry. Back to the topic at hand: for this week’s edition of Who’s Hot, Who’s Not, I feel inclined to do a “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” theme. Off we go: The Good: R.A. Dickey, New York Mets – The Last Knuckleballer is back in a groove again. He crafted a complete-game shutout of the Miami Marlins in his most recent start. For the season, Dickey sits in the top three in the following categories: wins (17; first), innings (191 1/3; second), strikeouts (190; second), ERA (2.63; third), WHIP ...

Mets' Dickey gets 18th victory with some adjustments

The knuckler wasn't on, so R.A. Dickey adjusted and went to the sinker. It was still enough for Dickey in a season that has been everything the last 15 were not. He became the first pitcher to win 18 games in the majors this season after the New York Mets' 6-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon. (Washington's Gio Gonzalez won his 18th later in the...

Dickey goes for 18th win in St. Louis matinee

Hello and welcome to another day of Mets baseball. Today the Mets send R.A. Dickey to the hill to try to avoid a sweep at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals. Plus, you may have heard that Dickey is just three wins shy of becoming the first Met since 1990 to win 20 games in a season. History! Mets knuckleball specialist R.A. Dickey became the first 18-game winner in the Major Leagues today. The Mets have won eight of their past 11 games and closed their second-longest road trip of the season with a 6-3 mark. Where was this in July...

Dickey reaches deep into pitching repertoire to hold off Cards, 6-2

ST. LOUIS – Despite the fact that the Mets’ R.A. Dickey did not have his best knuckleball working for him on Wednesday, he still was able to record his 18th win of the season thanks to a different pitch. Dickey relied more on his sinker on this day, battling into the seventh inning, to lead the Mets to a 6-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. “I didn’t have a good...

Deep Impact: Does Barry Manilow Know That You Raid His Wardrobe?

No intro today. I’m too busy eastwooding empty chairs around the house. I, too, want to scold that invisible Kenyan President for having the audacity of being born in the foreign country of Hawaii. If you need context, I’m not sure what happened the other day, but I was flipping channels and saw Clint Eastwood having a 20 minute stroke. I figured someone would call an ambulance...

MarLOLins

So I wanted to say a few quick words about the Marlins series.Ha ha.More words? Okay. First off, I'm not hopeful about R.A. Dickey's chances for Cy Young. Not because he doesn't deserve it after Friday's shutout, but because of this: I'm tired of hearing how a k-baller like #Mets RA Dickey shouldn't win the NL CY Young, he's been the best starter...
