Found March 29, 2013 on The Roosevelts:
As Major League Baseball prepares to open its season Sunday, high-octane pitching is dominating the game as never before. One day it’s the Cincinnati Reds’ Aroldis Chapman, the”Cuban Missile,” firing 103-mile-per-hour fastballs out of the bullpen. The next, starters like the Washington Nationals’ Stephen Strasburg and the Tampa Bay Rays’ David Price are clocking triple digits deep into games when they should be tiring. In 2003, there was only one pitcher who threw at least 25 pitches 100 mph or faster. In 2012, there were seven. A growing number of fastball pitchers are throwing at speeds reached by only a handful of hurlers a decade ago. This infographic explains why the velocity revolution hit warp speed, and what it means for baseball. Infographic via: wallstreetjournal.com

Slowly but surely, day-by-day, the ESPN Baseball Tonight crew has been unveiling its rankings for the top 500 players in Major League Baseball for 2013. The series began on March 20 and concluded on Friday, with the unveiling of the top 10 players. As you might imagine, several Reds made the cut. After all, there are only so many active MLB players they can choose from. And why...

Taiwanese fans use Manny Ramirez photo that isn’t, um… Manny Ramirez

Fans in Taiwan came out in force to see the newest member of the RDA Rhinos, Manny Ramirez, make his debut Wednesday. These two ladies marked the occasion with this special sign in support of the washed up slugger. 30-1 MLB countdown previews: #3 Reds

The Cincinnati Reds remind me of the 2007-2008 Philadelphia Phillies. A team that has been ready to win for a couple years; the only difference: they won a division title in 2010 in addition to their NL Central crown last season. Attention has shifted to teams such as Washington and Los Angeles, as well as the World Series Champion Giants and the Cardinals, who were in the NLCS for...

Manny Ramirez Makes Debut With EDA Rhinos in Taiwan, Fans Mistake Him for Johnny Cueto (Video)

Manny Ramirez is officially back on the diamond, folks. Unable to land a job (or even a spring training invite) with a major league club, Ramirez has landed in Taiwan, inking a deal with the EDA Rhinos. However, the local fans may apparently want to acclimate themselves with their new star. According to Busted Coverage, Ramirez’s Wednesday debut was nothing short of a circus, as...

In brief: a taste of winning yet to come

Ryan Ludwick laying off a ball outside.Last game The Reds were winners again yesterday, taking down the Padres 3-7. Mike Leake did the starting for the team and had a good outing: 1 run on 5 hits in 6.0 innings. Ryan Ludwick came through big time with a 3-run homer in the seventh inning to break the 1-1 tie and give the Reds a lead they wouldn’t lose. Joey Votto also his a home...

Follow @DSchmelzerTSB on Twitter Former MLB superstar Manny Ramirez made his home debut with the EDA Rhinos of the Chinese Baseball League Wednesday night. He is by far the biggest name to ever play in the league.  Fans throughout the stadium made signs supporting Manny, but one has stuck out from the rest. 2013 Reds' Record Prediction, Roster, Lineup, Etc.

The Cincinnati Reds won a whopping 97 games last year and expectations are even higher entering the 2013 season. While I have no doubt the Reds are a better team, I don’t think they’ll reach their win total of last season. A lot went right for them during the 2012 regular season when they didn’t have a starting pitcher miss a start and their run-differential of plus...

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) -- Carlos Santana homered and doubled off Cincinnati starter Armando Galarraga on Saturday, leading the Cleveland Indians to a 9-1 victory over a Reds split squad in the final spring training game for both teams. Santana hit his second home run of the spring in the fourth, a solo shot. Mark Reynolds, a free agent signed to DH, walked and scored on a single by...

NCB MLB Preview–NL Central

We continue our MLB previews today by moving into the Central divisions, beginning with the NL.  Full disclosure:  I am a diehard Cardinals fan, and therefore also a Cubs hater, but I’m going to do my best to stay as objective as possible here.  Here we go: Cincinnati Reds Notable offseason additions:  Shin-Soo Choo Notable The post NCB MLB Preview–NL Central appeared first...

Nationals Division Preview and Top 5 Minor League Prospects

Congratulations Washington Nationals fans, your team is finally being recognized as a legit world-series contender. After a heart-breaking Game 5 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals last season, the team is facing huge expectations, including from Manager Davey Johnson, who called this season, “World Series or bust.” With Stephen Strasburg finally off the innings limit, the emergence...

Gio Gonzalez got stuck in sucky D.C. traffic today.

While some of his teammates (Stephen Strasburg, Ryan Zimmerman, and Denard Span) spent some time on Saturday at the Syracuse-Marquette Elite 8 Regional Final at Verizon Center (also in attendance: President Obama and RGIII), Gio Gonzalez spent part of his day stuck in sucky D.C. traffic trying to get into the city. "Beautiful day out ,oh yea traffic sucks

2013 MLB Award Predictions Have Hardware Going to Stephen Strasburg, Joey Votto, Terry Francona (Photos)

The ultimate goal in baseball is to win the World Series. A little extra hardware doesn’t hurt, though. Last season saw one of the tightest and most debated MVP races in recent history, with baseball enthusiasts going toe-to-toe over whether Mike Trout or Miguel Cabrera deserved the honor in the America League. Cabrera, who ultimately won the award, had the benefit of baseball’s...
