The Braves acquired Pastornicky in the Yunel Escobar trade back in July of 2010. MLB.com’s Mark Bowman reports, via Twitter, that the Atlanta Braves and the shortstop Jack Wilson have agreed to a one-year deal worth $1 million. Wilson fills a spot that many expected to prospect Tyler Pastornicky to fill. If the Braves see Pastornicky as an above-average defensive shortstop with on-base skills at the plate, they should realize just how valuable he is. Pastornicky took major steps in 2011 and you could argue that he has three average-to-plus tools to build his career around – the hit tool is fringe-average, the defense is solid-average, and the speed tool is plus. Put it all together and you have a borderline all-star. Rather than using Pastornicky at shortstop on Opening Day, the Braves can give him some at-bats in Triple-A and use Wilson at shortstop to begin the year.
