Picture On Sunday, Will Middlebrooks hit his first career homerun. He liked it so much he decided to do it again twice on Monday, as the Boston Red Sox snapped their five-game losing streak in an 11-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals.
The Red Sox scored four times in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run bomb by Middlebrooks to give starter Felix Doubront a strong cushion before taking the hill. Middlebrooks hit his second homerun in the eighth, as part of a three-hit, five-RBI night for the rookie who was called up when Kevin Youkilis was placed on the disabled list.
David Ortiz went deep for the seventh time this year with a solo-shot in the third. An inning later, Dustin Pedroia got in on the action with his fourth of the season that scored Kelly Shoppach and increased the Red Sox lead back to three after the Royals scored twice in the bottom of the third.
Doubront didn't have his best stuff, lasting 6 1/3 innings and allowing four earned-runs on seven hits. However, it was good enough to pick up his second win on the season. Vicente Padilla earned his first save, pitching 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to give the Boston bullpen some much needed rest.
It wasn't certain how much Boston would have left in the tank. 24 hours earlier in one of the wackiest games of the baseball season, the Sox lost 9-6 to the Baltimore Orioles in 17 innings. Sox outfielder Darnell McDonald gave up a three-run homerun to Adam Jones in the top of the 17th inning. Orioles first baseman Chris Davis was 0-8 with 5 K's at the plate, however pitched two innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.
Boston is currently in a stretch where they will play twenty straight games, their fifth coming tomorrow night once again in Kansas City. Daniel Bard will get the start for Boston, as Danny Duffy will get the ball for the 9-19 Royals.

TL;DR The Boston Red Sox ended their five-game losing streak with an 11-5 win in Kansas City on Monday.

Will Middlebrooks: Hamstring “Nothing Serious”

I know I’m not the only one to breathe a sigh of relief after hearing what Will Middlebrooks said about his hamrstring, “It’s nothing serious. It’s not a big deal, it was just a precautionary thing coming out of the game, so hopefully I’ll be back in there Wednesday. It was just a type of cramping, tightness in the hamstring, so we really didn’t want to mess with it...

Will Middlebrooks Earning 'Royal Crush' From Red Sox Nation With Major League Success (Video)

Will Middlebrooks just keeps raking against major league pitching. Pretty soon they might need to give him a more permanent jersey number. That's the same number Dustin Pedroia wore when he broke into the bigs, and since he turned out pretty well, we've got our...

Middlebrooks comes up big for Red Sox

Will Middlebrooks was sitting in front of his locker, paying no attention to the horde of reporters heading his way, when Red Sox ace Jon Lester gave him fair warning. Will Mike Moustakas or Will Middlebrooks Have a Better Major League Career?

Will Middlebrooks is absolutely on fire right now. His third base counterpart in this series, however, isn't too shabby himself. In fact, there's a lot of promising talent at the position when surveying the entirety of the major leagues. Will Middlebrooks Presenting Quandry at Third Base for Red Sox With Kevin Youkilis Still Out

When Will Middlebrooks was first called up to the majors late last week, many thought it would be just a temporary move. But it appears that the 23-year-old third baseman may be carving out a permanent spot in Boston. Kevin Youkilis, the Red Sox everyday third baseman for the past seven season, is still anticipated to be the starter when he returns from lingering stiffness in his...

Vote: What Was the Biggest Storyline From Sunday’s 17-Inning Red Sox Game?

Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles offered plenty that fans don't usually get to see on a given afternoon. The obvious one was that the game went 17 innings and about six hours. But it never would have gotten there if not for Will Middlebrooks, who returned to the lineup and hit a bomb of a grand slam well over the Green Monster to get the Red Sox back in it. Middlebrooks...

Red Sox News & Notes - 5/8
