About 2 weeks ago, Wilmington Blue Rocks manager Vance Wilson implied his team to start hitting more to pick up the good efforts the pitchers were offering. After seeing the Rocks complete the sweep of the Potomac Nationals (Washington) in a mid morning school kid's special (the game started at 11:05am) its safe to say the team is playing at a high level in all facets of the game right now and today was no different. Good starting pitching from Tyler Sample, who went 5 innings and only game up 2 hits, and solid relief work from John Krek and Sam Runion was matched by some excellent defense by the Rocks. 2 double plays, one on a bunt try that Krek went to 2nd to start the 1-6-3 DP and the other on a line out to Rocks' RF Geulin Beltre and he doubled off Nationals' SS Zack Walters at 1st base. It was a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 8th and the Rocks came up with 2 insurance runs via a single by Brett Eibner that plated Whit Merrifield and a double to deep left c...
