As the Washington Nationals took on the Cincinnati Reds tonight, Wilson Ramos looked great as he homered for the Nats in the 5th inning off Mat Latos. Then in the 7th inning, Ramos turned to go after a ball that got by him and his knee appeared to buckle. Ramos went down and remained on the ground for several minutes looking to be in serious pain.  According to Amanda Comak, of the Washington Times, Ramos left the field with trainers on both sides as he gingerly put weight on his right leg.

Wilson Ramos is a very important piece for the Nationals, as the catcher was fourth in the Rookie of the Year Award voting in 2011. The Nats have already been without Adam LaRoche, Jayson Werth, Michael Morse, and Ryan Zimmerman this year. Catchers of Ramos’ talents don’t come by too often. The injury bug has hit hard.

Wilson Ramos is an interesting watch this year, as he was kidnapped during the off-season in his home country of Venezuela. Obviously, with the year he has last season, Ramos is a promising star. This is surely not good news for the young Nationals team.
