After another rough outing for Phil Coke, the Detroit Tigers finally decided to send the pitcher back to the bullpen to serve as a reliever for the remainder of the season. At right about the halfway point of the year, manager Jim Leyland said it just wasn’t working out for Coke to be a starter. In his most recent start, Coke and the Tigers faced the New York Mets who pounded the Tigers pitching staff. Lasting a mere 4 innings in the game, Coke gave up seven earned runs, ten hits, and walked two batters. Unfortunately for the left-hander, this was just another game in the long line of disappointing performances that has earned him just a 1-8 record for the year. Leyland said that in different circumstances, Coke might have been able to continue on in the starting rotation and hopefully work out the kinks. But with Detroit battling for sole possession of the AL Central, the team needed to try something else in order to give themselves a better chance to win ballgames. Enter Charlie F...
