TEAMS: Oakland Athletics, Pittsburgh Pirates
The Mexican Pacific and Puerto Rican Leagues have Friday night off, but the Dominicans and Venezuelans continue to play, with a few Pirates’ players and friends:
DOMINICAN LEAGUE
Aguilas Cibaenas 8, Leones del Escogido 4
Los Aguilas broke a 4-4 tie with 3-runs in the 6th, for an unusual loss for Los Leones. Escogido scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st. Los Aguilas got one run back in the bottom of the frame, with a single, a stolen base, and an RBI double by RF Brandon Moss. Two fielding errors and an RBI single tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd, then Moss gave Los Aguilas the lead with a 2-run homer. Los Leones tied the score again with 2 runs in the top of the 5th. The 6th began with three singles for Los Aguilas, driving in one run. After a wild pitch and a walk, another single added 2 more runs. A solo homer in the 7th gave Los Aguilas their final run.
VENEZUELAN LEAGUE
Navegantes del Magallanes 10, Aguilas del Zulia 2
Cesar Valdez made the start for Los Aguilas, but it was a tough appearance for him. He allowed 3 doubles, 2 singles, and a sacrifice fly for 4 runs in the 1st inning, then 2 more runs on a single, an error, and 2 doubles in the 2nd inning. That made for a short outing, as he was relieved to begin the 3rd inning, and was charged with the loss. Los Navegantes went on to score 4 more runs over the next three innings. Los Aguilas scored one run in the top of the 1st, on a fielding error, C Carlos Maldonado being hit by a pitch, and an RBI single. Two singles and a passed ball gave Los Aguilas one more run in the 9th inning.
Tiburones de La Guaira and Caribes de Anzoategui — tied at 6-6 after 11 innings
Los Tiburones began the game with 3 home runs in the top of the 1st — a 3-run blast before an out had been recorded, then a solo shot, and a 2-run homer. Los Caribes used a walk and three singles to score one run in the 2nd inning. Then Los Caribes burst out with 5 runs in the 7th inning to tie the score. A walk, a fielding error, and a single brought in the first run. CF Gorkys Hernandez singled to load the bases, then two more singles drove in two runs each, and the score was tied at 6-6. Los Caribes threatened in both the 9th and 10th, but could not push a run across.
