The first full day of Major League baseball is a time for rejoicing -- and rampant, completely unwarranted speculation on what a single game says about a team's prospects that season. In keeping with this age-old tradition, we are wasting no time in expressing our bafflement with just how bad the San Francisco Giants have the opportunity to be this season.

  • Giants are so bad. So bad.
  • i feel so bad for matt cain, one of the best young pitchers in the game and gets no run support. a lot like randy johnson a few years ago in arizona.
  • What the hell was sabean and magowan doing in the off season. Looks like they were hanging out with John York. Between the the 3 of them they couldn't spot talent if it were right in front of there face. You guys are truly an embarassment to bay area fans. Have you lost that will to win and be the best or is it just a business to you guys? You guys are frickin joke! Sell the team to someone that wants to bring back a championship trophy or ring. Un f'n believable!

  • I also feel for TIM LINCECUM. But strangely-enough, 15-game losing seasons can HELP a young pitcher in the long run. Look up JAVIER VAZQUEZ's 1998 stats with the (late) Montreal Expos...

Bets are on: will the Giants lose more games than the Marlins or (currently unbeaten!) Nationals? I say they will. And with the FIRST overall pick in the draft, maybe they can get their hands on... BARRY BONDS JR., if he exists! :O
  • Thanks for stating the obvious. The best hope is that all the offensive vets (Durham, Aurilia, Vizquel, Roberts, and Wiinn) get injured, opening the door for the young offensive players stuck on the bench (Davis, Lewis, Velez, Bocock, Fransen, Ortmeyer). If they are going to lose, let them lose with the young guys.
  • Based on my comment last night, It's no wonder talented players will not commit to bay area teams. Would you want to play for a franchise that is not commited to win! Owners must show a commitment to field a competetive team in order for a good/great player to say "Yeah, I'd like to be a part of that" Like the New England patriots and the old 49er dynasty in the 80's. There was a pride factor in a commitment to win. I think York, Magowen and Sabean have lost the big picture. I'm not going to even start on how they (Magowen and sabean) disrespected the house that bonds built. How dare you take down all the history that man brought to your franchise. Again you guys have lost the big picture.
