Russell Martin isn't going to win any batting titles this season, but he's certainly showing how

important his bat can be for the Yankees.

Martin belted a three-run homer to kick off a five-run fourth inning for the Yankees Friday, starting

New York on its way to an 8-5 win over the Orioles that put the Yankees back in sole possession of first

place in the American League East.

"I'm a lot more comfortable," Martin said. "Really, I feel good. It's hard to describe. I feel like I'm

seeing the ball well, feel like I'm taking good swings. Off-speed pitches, fastballs, whatever; I'm just

seeing it."

Martin is 6-for-14 on the road trip, hitting two home runs and driving in seven runs to help the Yankees

to both of their wins against the Rays and Orioles. He may be hitting .204 for the season, but the catcher

feels as though he's been hitting the ball hard for most of the second half, giving him the hope that a big

September is ahead of him.

"I'm starting to get results and that's the key, really," Martin said. "You can be swinging the bat

great and not get any results and it doesn't really change anything. I feel like I've been swinging the bat

much better for the last month or so. I'm just starting now to get results. It's a grind, and it's not

over."
