The Yankees have acquired right-handed reliever Chad Qualls from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations. Qualls, 33, was 1-1 with a 4.60 ERA in 35 appearances for the Phillies this year.
The right-hander has a 39-35 record with 51 saves and a 3.82 ERA over nine seasons with the Astros, Diamondbacks, Rays, Padres and Phillies.
With the acquisition of Qualls, Cory Wade’s spot on the roster may be in jeopardy. The struggling right-hander has a 5.79 ERA in 33 appearances for New York this year.
The Yankees said that a corresponding move to make room for Qualls on the 40-man roster will be announced at a later time.
