<a href="" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8844\">The Yankees have acquired right-handed reliever Chad Qualls from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations. Qualls, 33, was 1-1 with a 4.60 ERA in 35 appearances for the Phillies this year.

The right-hander has a 39-35 record with 51 saves and a 3.82 ERA over nine seasons with the Astros, Diamondbacks, Rays, Padres and Phillies.

With the acquisition of Qualls, Cory Wade’s spot on the roster may be in jeopardy. The struggling right-hander has a 5.79 ERA in 33 appearances for New York this year.

The Yankees said that a corresponding move to make room for Qualls on the 40-man roster will be announced at a later time.

Why Yankees Soriano got stiffed

Rafael Soriano (Photo credit: Wikipedia) The 2012 AL All-Star team was announced this past Sunday; and four New York Yankees were selected, so CONGRATULATIONS are in order for Derek Jeter, Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson and CC Sabathia. MLB fans voted on the starting position players for each team. But each league’s respective All-Star manager chooses the pitchers and reserve...

Cory Wade Optioned To Triple-A

According to various reports, the Yankees have optioned Cory Wade to Triple-A to make room for Chad Qualls. Wade has struggled lately allowing 10 earned runs on 11 hits over his last two outings (3 innings pitched)and has seen his ERA climb from 2.63 on 6/11 to 4.45. Overall he's pitched to a very ugly 9.68 ERA over his last 20 outings, so maybe a few weeks in the minors will...

Ruben Amaro Waves a Phillies White Flag With Jim Thome Trade

Well, that's it.  Ruben Amaro has given up on the Phillies for the 2012 season.   In case you did not pick that up by a lack of moves when things went wrong, his trade of Jim Thome to the Baltimore Orioles for nothing that would help this 2012 club shows that it is over. The Phillies record this year is an indication of what Amaro did or did not do for the club.  Now let...

Untuck: Soriano Surging

<a href="" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8907\"> Nothing is better than relaxing after a hard days work. When Rafael Soriano records...

Yankees Optioned Cory Wade to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre

The move clears a roster spot for reliever Chad Qualls, who was acquired from the Phillies on Sunday evening. Wade has a 5.79 ERA in 32 2/3 innings this season. This move was the obvious action once Qualls was signed.

Phillies need something positive -- Halladay's return would help

Charlie Manuel let out an odd chuckle in the visiting manager's office at Marlins Park on Saturday afternoon. It was either gallows humor or a self-deprecating laugh. But it also kind of summed up the state of his fading, underachieving team. "When we can't win with (Cliff) Lee and (Cole) Hamels, that kinds of tells you how things are going," Manuel said before...

Cliff Lee Win Watch

You've asked for it. You've got it - The 'Cliff Lee Win Watch' is here.I thought for a long time about what would be an appropriate sidebar widget to track and commemorate the historically 'unlucky'* season that the winless Cliff Lee is having. [*Don't even begin to argue that he's not unlucky. I don't want to here about the hits and runs and whatever...

Timing perfect for Rays' win over Yankees

ST. PETERSBURG There's something about Matt Moore and the New York Yankees. Heck, there's something about the Yankees and Tropicana Field that seems to bring out the best in the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays' rookie lefthander made his big-league debut against New York last September and picked up the win with a standout performance. Monday night, Moore faced the Yankees...

Yankees 4, White Sox 2

NEW YORK -- As part of an on-camera interview during the New York Yankees' annual Old-Timers Day festivities, former second baseman Willie Randolph joked he would turn some double plays during the game at his old position. Then he laughed and cautioned current Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano to "look out" for him. The more accurate warning would be for opponents...

Joba promises to pitch

Joba Chamberlain insisted late last season that he would pitch for the New York Yankees in 2012, even after Tommy John surgery. During Spring Training he suffered an off the field ankle injury, a major one, an injury that would have kept most people out for the year. Chamberlain still insisted that he would pitch in 2012, after today’s batting practice that promise still stands...

BP Unfiltered: Just Forget About Match-Up Stats by Ben Lindbergh

In the first inning of Sunday's Yankees-White Sox game, Robinson Cano grounded into a double play off Gavin Floyd. In the third inning, he worked his way into a 3-1 count. Here's what happened then: That's an ugly swing, especially in a hitter's count. Cano certainly thought so. That prompted this exchange between YES Network broadcasters Michael Kay...

Yankees' Kiroda gives bullpen relief from heat

NEW YORK -- Hiroki Kuroda gave the New York Yankees exactly what they needed. Dewayne Wise continued to give them more than they expected in a wild week for the little-used defensive sub. Kuroda cooled off the red-hot Chicago White Sox and stabilized the reeling Yankees rotation with a dominant start in New York's 4-0 win at Yankee Stadium on Saturday. With two of the club...
