Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes was set to be one of this offseason’s biggest targets, thanks to his five-tool potential and the success he had last season in the Cuban league.
After defecting his free agency was put on hold as he attempted to establish residency in the Dominican Republic. Now that he has completed that, Cespedes is likely to be granted free agency any day, which means the bidding war for him should start shortly.
One team that will apparently be in the mix for the Cuban outfielder is the New York Yankees, who are apparently “big” on him. If New York really wants the 26-year-old, you’d have to think the Yankees will be able to put up the kind of money that can land him. The problem is, New York already has three starting outfielders in Curtis Granderson, Nick Swisher and Brett Gardner. That means if the Yankees sign Cespedes, dominoes could start falling.
Gardner or Swisher could certainly be traded, or used in the designated hitter spot, b...

New York Yankees: Rivera’s Retirement…Really Rob?
Image via Wikipedia
On the heels of the news, via WFAN’s Sweeny Murti tweet, that New York Yankees Jorge Posada was retiring, reading the headline ‘Rivera will decide on retirement by spring training,’ made me want to puke.
That headline came from an article by Rob Abruzzese over at the uber-popular Bronx Baseball Daily, also a personal favorite blog that I visit regularly...
Yankees Question of the Day – January 9, 2012
With the talks of Jorge Posada hanging up his catchers gear for good in the next few weeks, there has been a lot of talk circulating as to whether or not the Yankees should eventually retire his number. Personally, I am a huge fan of Jorge; however, I do not feel his number should be [...]

Players to Celebrate in 2012: Mariano Rivera
The 2012 season may be the last for some of the best players of this generation. Yesterday we focused on Chipper Jones in the first part of a series celebrating these players. Jones has a contract possibility of playing in 2013, but it seems likely that this will be his swan song. Mariano Rivera of the New York Yankees is another player who we could be seeing for the last time...
The Verdict Is In For N.Y. Baseball Fans…Reyes or Jeter?
It has been the question that has driven N.Y. baseball fans around the water cooler for the past nine years: Reyes or Jeter? This may seem like an odd time to have this discussion with Jeter being on the tail end of his career and Reyes bringing his shaved eyebrows down to Miami, but it’s time we settle the score once and for all. Let’s face it, this may be the...
Scott Proctor Signs In Korea
Reliever Scott Proctor signed with Korea's Doosan Bears, reports Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net. The team added Dustin Nippert back in November.
Proctor, 35, pitched for the Braves and Yankees in 2011. He posted a 7.14 ERA, 6.5 K/9, 6.9 BB/9, 2.5 HR/9, and 31.6% groundball rate in 40 1/3 innings. Proctor's average fastball velocity was up to 93.8 miles per hour, but it...
Jorge Posada career highlights
On Saturday, news surfaced that Jorge Posada intends to retire after 17 years in baseball. In that time, he combined two things that rarely go together. He was a longtime New York Yankee, and he was constantly underrated. Players for the game’s marquee franchise usually get at least their share of attention yet, somehow, Posada slipped through the cracks.
In honor of the recently...
Jorge Posada Comes to the End of the Line
With the Giants making short work of the dirty birds from Atlanta, the Knicks finding their way into the season and the Jets melting down, there's precious little space for other sports news right now.
That's a shame, because the news that broke over the weekend about Jorge Posada deserved a bigger moment in the spotlight. Sweeney Murti of WFAN reported Saturday that Posada...
Yogi says Posada is doing the right thing
With Jorge Posada set to announce his retirement in the coming weeks, another terrific Yankee backstop – Yogi Berra – believes Posada is doing the right thing by keeping his career pinstripes-only.
Highlighting Jorge
Chris Jaffe provides a timeline of the career of Jorge Posada.
I’m somewhat surprised at how poorly Posada ranks against the game’s great catchers in terms of WAR.
