While the Yankees might have quite a few all-stars on the DL this season — Jeter, A-Rod, Granderson, Teixeira and Youkilis — they’ll still be represented like every other team. Robinson Cano and Mariano Rivera will be the Yankee representatives at Citi Field this year.
Cano, also the American League Captain for the Home Run Derby, will be making his 5th appearance in the Mid-Summer Classic and it’ll be his 4th straight selection as the starting second baseman.
“It’s special that it’s in New York,” Cano said. “I can’t wait for that day to happen.”
Cano got off to a hot start to the season, but slowed down a little bit through May and June, but has picked up tremendously over the teams last ten games or so, and for the season, he’s batting .293 with 20 home runs and 58 RBIs in 88 games.
To no surprise, Mariano Rivera will be making his 13th All-Star Game appearance in what will be the final season in his storied Major League career.
