Earlier we heard that the Yankees offered arbitration to Freddy Garcia, but the latest is that the two sides are close to a deal that will keep the veteran pitcher in Pinstripes, according to David Waldstein of the NY Times. The Yankees signed Garcia to a non-guaranteed minor league deal last February and not only did he make the team, but he was a major contributor. In 26 games and 146.2 innings he had a 3.62 ERA, a 5.9 K/9 and a 2.8 BB/9. So the Yankees are rewarding him with another contract. This won’t keep the Yankees from going after another starter or two, but they will have five starters after this deal is finalized including Garcia plus CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Phil Hughes, and Ivan Nova.
