Bronx Baseball Daily:
The Hiroki Kuroda signing is finally official and to make room on the 40-man roster for him the Yankees have designated righty Kevin Whelan for assignment, according to Bryan Hoch and Jon Heyman.
âI feel happy to be a part of such a storied franchise, which is always in contention for a World Series,â Kuroda said. âI am also very proud to be a part of this current team, which boasts so many great players. As a member of the Yankees, I would like to do my part by doing the best I can throughout the season. I hope that I can make a difference in achieving the teamâs ultimate goal, which is to win the World Series.â
Teams now have 10 days to claim Whelan otherwise he will stay in the Yankees system. He was originally acquired back in 2006 in a sign and trade with the Tigers for Gary Sheffield. The Yankees also landed Humberto Sanchez and Anthony Claggett.
Whelan had a good year in Triple-A last year putting up a 2.75 ERA, a 9.3 K/9, and a 2.4 BB/9 over 52.1 innings. Because he is 28-years-old now those numbers arenât nearly as impressive though. He made his major league debut last season, walking five in 1.2 innings.

Derek Jeterâs home run power was the subject of one of our top 100 offseason questions posts. Could he get the power back? Our conclusion was that he could get back to being a 10-homer guy like he was in 2010, but it would take some kind of special, throwback effort for him to really exceed that total. Thatâs just the life of an aging icon. Still, Jeter is probably a .300 hitter...

Our good friend on Twitter @ElieIsElite relayed a comment made my Mike Lupica today on ESPN 1050:
âThereâs nothing bigger in this area than Giants football; not the Yankees, not the Mets, not the Jets, nothing! nothing! nothing!â
I am not sure I agree with this statement. Right now, the Giants clearly have overtaken the Yankees for the talk of the town. Check in with me in...
Alex Rodriguez's baseball skills and ability to commit to one celebrity girlfriend may be on the decline, but he's apparently at the top of his game when it comes to investing in real estate.

Look, Iâm a Braves fan. Iâm not some biased, hoarding, ego-centric Yankee with an overinflated sense of self. Iâm a baseball fan and I understand how this game works. I frankly despise the way the Yankees bossed around the little guy en route to their 27 championships. All that said Prince Fielderâs biggest chance for the most money he can possibly make was to sign...
