New York Yankees 6 — Boston Red Sox 1

Andruw Jones turned the clock back in today’s 6-1 over the Boston Red Sox for the first game of two today.

Nick Swisher and Andruw Jones got the Yankees on the scoreboard in a big way with back-to-back home runs in the 1st inning. Nick Swisher’s home run came with two on the bases to help start the Yankees with a four-run lead before the Red Sox even got to step into the batter’s box, again. The Bronx Bombers continued living up to their moniker in the 4th inning. Andruw Jones would start another set of back-to-back home runs as he would hit his second of the game and Jayson Nix would follow him as they took advantage of the Green Monster in left. After their second win without a home run, the Yankees returned to their comfort zone as the four home runs supplied all the runs they would need to take the second game of the series and first of today’s doubleheader.

Freddy Garcia was today’s recipient of the early offense. Unlike Kuroda yesterday, Garcia was able to hold the lead and would actually keep the Red Sox from getting their first hit until David Ortiz hit a single off of the Green Monster. In Garcia’s 6.2 innings of work, he gave up just 1 run on 6 hits with 5 strikeouts in an impressive start that should have earned him another start. In the 6th inning, Andruw Jones turned back the clock to his Gold Glove days when he jumped at the Green Monster to rob Adrian Gonzalez of a base hit and converted it into a double play by getting David Ortiz off of 1st. The Yankees have come into Boston and made the Red Sox look anything but a rival in the usually tough AL East. The Red Sox are suffering from a countless number of injuries and the Yankees have made that very clear.

In 2008 when Andruw Jones hit .158 through the first couple of months of the year, I was certain he was done. After all, he had been steadily declining for seasons, and he was coming off a year where he hit .222 with the Braves. It’s only now, 4 years later, that I feel comfortable admitting something that I don’t very often–that I was dead wrong. Andruw Jones was once a phenom...

This live drunk blogging is tough enough when you're playing one game. Two is hell. One more day to go. One more day. To. Go. Now what do we do with Andruw Jones?
