While Derek Jeter was able to suit up at shortstop again last night, the New York Yankees are reportedly also close to getting two other players back from injury; first baseman Mark Teixeira and right-hander David Aardsma.
  • Jeter played short for only the fourth time in 12 games since aggravating the bone bruise on his ankle.  While the injury hasn’t noticeably impacted his performance on the field, Yankees manager Joe Girardi admitted yesterday that he cringes each time Jeter hits a ball in the hole.
  • We learned yesterday that New York was hoping to have first baseman Mark Teixeira back “soon,” but Chad Jennings of The Journal News says “it remains anyone’s guess” when the he’ll be able to rejoin the Yankees.  A best case scenario would have Teixeira returning to the lineup Thursday.
  • While Teixeira isn’t due back until at least Thursday, the Yankees are expected to activate right-hander David Aardsma today.  Aardsma hasn’t pitched in the majors since the 2010 season when he posted an ERA and WHIP of 3.44 and 1.168 with 31 saves as a member of the Seattle Mariners.

The New York Yankees rookies prepared for the final road trip of the season by dressing up as some of the best-known characters from the "Star Wars" films after Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Oakland A's. This year's hazing of first year players may be a tongue-in-cheek attempt at humor because the team is universally known as "The Evil Empire." Last year...

Brett Gardner Injury: Yankees Activate OF for Stretch Run

According to Jack Moore of CBS Sports, Brett Gardner will be available in tonight's...

A's halt Yankees' seven-game winning streak

NEW YORK -- The ball soared off Alex Rodriguez's bat in the bottom of the ninth, flying deeper and deeper to right field, threatening to tie the game for the New York Yankees. As the Oakland A's tracked the ball's flight, the memories of the past two games could easily have flown through their heads. Two nights before, Russell Martin sent the Yankees home with a game...

T Minus 9: Yanks Win, O's Split

I had just one small request yesterday for the Toronto Blue Jays: That they take one game in their doubleheader against the Orioles. Request granted. Had they not done that, and had the Yankees lost last night, the Orioles would be in sole possession of first place this morning. But the Yankees lead by 1.5 games, so all  is well in Yankees Universe right now.Right now. Things could...
