After concerns that Michael Pineda could miss the entire 2013 season for the Yankees, fear started setting in.  At least among Yankees fans.  New York had traded away Jesus Montero to get Pineda.  He couldn't flop.  Now, it seems Pineda will not miss the 2013 season after all.  He threw from a half-mound yesterday for the first time. Anthony McCarron got a sneak peak of Pineda and other Yankees players getting some early reps in at the team's spring training facility in Tampa. Looks like Pineda prepping for a half-mound session. Ah, spring! twitter.com/AnthonyMcCarro… — Anthony McCarron (@AnthonyMcCarron) February 5, 2013 Semi-official count on Pineda's half-mound: 25. Make of it what you will. — Anthony McCarron (@AnthonyMcCarron) February 5, 2013 If Pineda can continue throwing, there is no reason to believe he won't pitch in 2013.  And the Yankees can use some good news like that.  With Alex Rodriguez injured and caught up in scandal, and with Derek Jeter returning from a broken ankle, a dose of the positive is a good thing for New York. Pineda missed the entire 2012 season with shoulder issues that eventually required surgery.  He was a highly-prized target of the Yankees, and the only way they were able to get him was to give up highly-prized prospect, Jesus Montero.  So far, Pineda has not thrown a pitch for the Yankees. Pineda did start 28 games for the Mariners in 2011.  He went 9-10 with a 3.74 ERA.  Pineda is still just 24 years old, so that Yankees hope he can develop into something special.
