Francisco Cervelli's minimum timeframe for return just got a bit longer. According to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News, the New York Yankees have moved the injured catcher to the 60-day DL just a day after he landed on the 15-day DL with a hamstring strain :Make that at least two months for Cervelli, as the Yankees place him on the 60-day disabled list.— Mark Feinsand (@FeinsandNYDN) April 15, 2014The move means that Cervelli will not be eligible to be activated until June 13th, suggesting that the Yankees think that the 28-year-old will take longer than the 4-6 weeks suggested yesterday to recover. The alternative possibility is that the Yankees are happy to go with an alternative backup to Brian McCann even when Cervelli is ready to play. For now, that backup looks to be J.R. Murphy, as tweeted by Feinsand. Murphy is still just 22 and had his first brief taste of the major leagues last season with 27 plate appearances in a September callup, during which he hit his fi...

Carlos Beltran on playing first base: ""I hope I don't have to do it again"

The Yankees' infield depth (or lack thereof) was highlighted last night when Francisco Cervelli went down with a hamstring injury during last night's game. Last night, Kelly Johnson was playing third base for Yangervis Solarte who was playing second base for Brian Roberts. Dean Anna was playing shortstop for Derek Jeter which left manager. Manager Joe Girardi essentially...

Masahiro Tanaka is Exceeding Even the Highest Expectations

There are three things that everyone should know about Masahiro Tanaka’s MLB career thus far: 1) He has thrown 22.0 innings. 2) He has struck out 28 batters. 3) He has allowed 2 walks. And, just for good measure, he’s a fourth thing: 4) He has exceeded even our strongest expectations. He’s allowed 17 combined hits and walks in 22 innings. In case...

Hal Steinbrenner: Yankees don't need Drew

The perilous depth of the Yankees infield was exposed when the team lost Francisco Cervelli to a hamstring injury. Joe Girardi was forced to play Carlos Beltran at first base against the Red Sox as the team was resting some of its veteran infielders. Nevertheless, expect the Yankees to stay put for now. Hal Steinbrenner recently stated that the team isn't looking for outside...

A-Rod Sells Luxurious Miami Beach Condo, Nets $500K In Profits (Photos)

Looks like Alex Rodriguez is finding other ways to earn money during his suspension. The New York Yankees star sold his condominium in Miami Beach for $2.575 million earlier this week, according to the Wall Street Journal. A-Rod purchased the fancy digs about a year earlier for $2.1 million, which means that the suspended third baseman will earn about $500,000 in profits on the deal...

This swarm of injuries is not due to fracking or global warming; nor is it God's wrath: It is the natural state of the Yankees

Have you noticed that whenever some TV talking haircut blames a tornado or "super-storm" on global warming, instead of convincing dittoheads to change their ways, it only riles them? No hurricane will alter Glenn Beck's views. He'll just blame God. Twenty years from now, the erosion of shorelines and the movement of invasive species will slowly prove the consequences...

Brian McCann's Fingers Should be Jacked Up After Getting Hit Like This

Sunday night Yankees catcher Brian McCann was hit in the hand by a ball. When you see the way his fingers bend you are likely going to have one reaction--your going to say/think "damn!" and than flex your hand to make sure it works. Here's the best part--he stayed in the game and the x-rays taken after the game showed no damage at all. Iconic Cubs & Yankees Set To Square Off At The Stadium Tonight

Assuming the weather cooperates, two historic Major League franchises, the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs, will play their first-ever regular season game at the new Yankee Stadium tonight.  The two teams played an exhibition set when the building opened in 2009, with the Yankees winning both games pretty easily. Will the Yankees have the same success tonight?  Examining the...

He would walk one in the first but that was one of the very few to reach base...

Once Again #42 Will Make its Way Onto the Diamond

With the Retirement of Mariano Rivera at the end of last season, the number 42 jersey in baseball has “officially” been retired.  Rivera was the last player to be grandfathered in after Major League Baseball retired the jersey on this date in 1997. It was not due, however, to some prophecy of Mo’s future dominance that lead to the number’s retirement, but rather to...

Yankees vs Cubs (4/15/14)

Masahiro Tanaka (1-0, 3.21 ERA) gets to celebrate his first ever Jackie Robinson day by taking on Jason Hammel (2-0. 2.63 ERA) and the Cubs. Tanaka struck out 10 in his Yankee Stadium debut against the Orioles but took a no decision allowing three runs on seven hits. The three runs came off a Jonathan Schoop homer. ”If you look at the first two starts, the beginning of the game...

Yankees to Honor Nelson Mandela

Following his death this past December, the New York Yankees announced that they would be honoring Nelson Mandela with his own plaque in  Yankee Stadium’s famed Monument Park during Tuesday’s league-wide celebration of Jackie Robinson Day. And before you ask…no, Mandela will not be the first non-baseball player immortalized at Yankee Stadium.  Far from it.  Also remembered…Pope...

Yankees Honor Mandela With Plaque In Monument Park

The Yankees had a Jackie Robinson Day for the ages. The Yankees unveiled the plaque in honor of the late Nelson Mandela between their day-night double header on Wednesday. The plaque will reside in Monument Park in the stadium beside a myriad of Yankee icons from the past. Mandela has a unique connection with the Yankees when he visited the old stadium in 1990, in what was his...

Video: Overturned Call The Difference in Yankees 3-2 Win Over Red Sox

Instant replay has seen its share of good and bad over the past few weeks of the 2014 season. The Boston Red Sox saw it go against them on Saturday earning an apology from MLB. And on Sunday night, an overturned call cost them their manager and the game. Francisco Cervelli‘s fielder’s choice RBI in the 4th inning turned out to be the difference as the New York Yankees beat the...
