Yankees-cano-gets-high
getty The New York Yankees will offer Robinson Cano a contract but it is likely to fall short of the 10 years and $300 million the second baseman is said to be seeking. “I don’t feel this organization is ready to do something like that,” Hal Steinbrenner said Tuesday on “The Michael Kay Show” on ESPN New York 98.7 FM. “No, I do not. “We’ll see. I know that is a number that is out there now. We’ll see if he gets it, how much he wants to be in New York. But, again, I can promise it is going to be a very, very solid offer that we do make because we are going to try. We are going to try the best we can to keep him.” The Yankees are still feeling the burden of a 10 year deal given to Alex Rodriguez in 2007. Currently there is at-least four years and $86 million left owed to Rodriguez. Steinbrenner has made an effort to get the Yankees under the $189 million threshold in order to save money from the luxury tax. If Rodriguez’s 211 game suspension is overturned the Yankees will find it impossible to re-sign Cano and add additional players for the 2014 season.

Where do the New York Yankees go from here?

Robinson Cano will play a crucial role in the Yankees’ future. The great New York Yankees, that’s all I grew up hearing about most of my life. I mean since 1995, the Yankees have won five World Series titles, that’s more than most teams have won in their respective history, and have been in the playoffs all but two times, with no losing record when they missed the playoffs...

Hal Steinbrenner Talks About Re-Signing Robinson Cano

The Yankees know how hard it is to replace a player like Robinson Cano, even if fans may be split on whether or not it's worth re-signing him. It can take years and even some luck. Not to mention there is no second baseman on the horizon who could come close to filling his shoes. That's why Yankees' owner Hal Steinbrenner wants to do everything he can to keep...

Mets Not Interested In Cano Or Abreu, Are In The Market For A Unicorn

Andy Martino of the NY Daily News reports that the Mets aren’t expected to pursue free agents Robinson Cano or Jose Abreu according to “major league sources familiar with the team’s thinking,” . A high-ranking team official recently told the Star-Ledger’s Jorge Castillo that Alderson’s scouts came away “impressed” with Abreu’s power. But obviously (and predictably...

Empire To Second Baseman: Nice Cano-Ing Ya!

(USATSI)Here's one reason to root for Alex Rodriguez's ambulance-chasers: if he wins his appeal, the Yankees likely don't re-sign Robinson Cano. After Hal "Tweedle-Dumb" Steinbrenner admitted on radio yesterday that The Pinstriped Posers would not give Cano the ten-year deal he wants, it became clear that much of the reason hinges on A-Fraud's doping penalty...

Mets Rumors: New York unlikely to pursue Robinson Cano, Jose Abreu

The New York Mets have been connected to both Robinson Cano and Jose Abreu, but don't expect them to sign either of them. They may check in on both of them, but don't expect either one of them to end up with the Mets. While the Mets may like Jose Abreu and his power potential, you shouldn't expect them to pursue him, according to Andy Martino of the New York Daily...

Cano – Barney = 78 Runs

I was reading the solidly-above-replacement-level Yankees blog rlyw.net this morning, and I came across a very interesting table. It listed the Runs Created at 2B for each team this year. I won't reproduce the whole list (seriously, check out that blog, it's interesting), but I share one thing: NYY: 123 RC CHC: 45 RC That's a difference of 78 RUNS. It's really hard...

Robinson Cano will not get a 10-year deal from the New York Yankees

Robinson Cano will not get the 10-year $300 million dollar deal that he allegedly desires.New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner spoke with ESPN New York and simultaneously expressed his admiration for Cano while putting his foot down. “I don’t feel this organization is ready to do something like that,” Steinbrenner told The Michael Kay Show.  ”No, I do not. “We’ll...

Steinbrenner says Yanks will do everything they can for Cano, ‘within reason’

The Yankees began their offseason by focusing on re-signing manager Joe Girardi as quickly as possible and preventing him from hitting the open market. As Hal Steinbrenner made clear on Tuesday the team will take a very different approach with Robinson Cano. “It sounds like he wants to go out and test the market and talk to whoever he needs or wants to talk to" the Yankees...

Robinson Cano Nominated for the Aaron Award

Robinson Cano is one of 15 athletes from the American League nominated for the 2013 Hank Aaron Award. The Aaron Award honors the best offensive player from each league. Unlike the MVP award, where just writers get to vote, both fans and writers vote on the Aaron Award winners. The AL favorites this year are Chris Davis, Mike Trout, and Miguel Cabrera. Last year's winners...

Why NY Mets don't expect to pursue Robinson Cano, Jose Abreu -- and why that's wise

Nearly every time Sandy Alderson speaks of increased payroll flexibility this winter the Mets GM attaches a footnote that underlines his deeply-felt belief in fiscal responsibility: We're not going to throw money around he finds a way to say just because we can. Now we can apply that logic to two specific players Robinson Cano and Cuban first baseman Jose Abreu. According to...

Robinson Cano Shouldn’t Expect 10-Year Deal, But Yankees Will Try to Win Him in Free Agency, Hal Steinbrenner Says

Robinson Cano may be back with New York in 2014, but that may be more because of a lack of options than anything else. Cano is a free agent this offseason at a time when long-term contracts for big stars just aren’t panning out, from Albert Pujols‘ poor start with the Angels to Alex Rodriguez‘s career continuing to go off the rails with the Yankees. With Magic Johnson of the...

Joe Girardi signs 4-year extension with Yankees

The New York Yankees announced Wednesday that manager Joe Girardi has signed a four-year contract extension that could keep him managing the club through the 2017 season. The financial terms of the contract were not immediately known, but the Yankees said publicly that they

Report: Yanks won't pay Cano $300M

The last few weeks for Robinson Cano have been interesting to say the least. First, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported in September that the free agent asked the Yankees for a $300 million contract during the season . Then we found out in early October he may need that money to deal with claims he's a deadbeat dad . But on Tuesday, the Yankees' owner spoke, and it sounds...

Could Magic Johnson be in Trouble for Comments About Cano's Free Agent Deal?

Could Magic Johnson be in trouble from MLB for comments he made last week about New York Yankees second baseman and Jay-Z client, Robinson Cano? Sources have told ESPN that MLB is looking into what Magic said or didn't say last week about (probably) Robinson Cano, because Magic is part of the Los Angeles Dodgers' ownership group. Apparently, this is because...

Kendrys will reject qualifying offer, seek a longer deal as free agent

The Mariners intend to extend a one-year qualifying offer to Kendrys Morales not necessarily because they are hoping for the draft-pick compensation but because they want to retain him. They may just end up with the draft pick though. Morales will turn down the qualifying offer as he'd expect to hit it much bigger in a market flush with cash but bereft of power (Nelson Cruz...
