The highly anticipated showdown between Justin Verlander and CC Sabathia will resume Monday - much to Sabathia's chagrin. The Yankees have announced that the burly lefthander will start Game 3 of the American League Divisional Series on Monday night against Verlander and the Detroit Tigers. The two were originally set to kick off the best-of-5 series Friday night, but the game went just 1 1/2 innings before heavy rain forced officials to suspend play until Saturday.Sabathia, who threw 27 pitches Friday, had hoped to be back on the mound Sunday in Game 2. That would have enabled him to return on short rest for Game 5, should the teams get that far.The Yankees have opted to give him an additional day of rest, meaning both he and Verlander will pitch just once in the series.Detroit's Doug Fister will oppose the Yankees' Ivan Nova when Game 1 continues Saturday night. The Tigers send Max Scherzer up against Freddy Garcia for Game 2 on Sunday.
