Nick Swisher hit a grand slam to help the New York Yankees erase a nine-run deficit, then he added a two-run double to give them the lead as they posted back-to-back seven-run innings to beat Boston 15-9 on Saturday and send the Red Sox to their fifth straight loss.
A day after Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz gave up five homers and the Yankees spoiled Fenway Park's 100th anniversary party, Boston chased New York starter Freddy Garcia after 1 2-3 innings and opened a 9-0 lead through five. But Mark Teixeira homered twice, the second a three-run shot in the seven-run seventh that cut the deficit to 9-8.
Swisher hit a two-run double off the center field wall in the eighth to make it 10-8. Teixeira, who homered from both sides of the plate for the 13th time in his career, and Swisher each had six RBIs.

Yankees sign Nelson Figueroa to minor league deal
The Yankees have signed 37-year-old righty and former Met, Nelson Figueroa, to a minor league deal, according to Figueroa’s own Facebook account and later confirmed by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
This seems like a pure depth move to eat up some innings in the minor leagues. It seems very doubtful that Figueroa would ever be called up to the Bronx unless there is an emergency situation...
Nova: I’m the best pitcher in the world
When Ivan Nova was a prospect coming up through the Yankees system, he was never highly touted. A lot of that was due to his not so spectacular stats through the minors and his lack of a plus pitch. However, he was always praised by scouts who loved the poise he showed out on the mound.
Perhaps that is because he thinks he’s the best pitcher in the world.
“If you ask me,...
Warning! Do not trade minor league pitching depth
The Yankees have a plethora of pitching options at the MLB level and a superfluous amount of “arms in waiting” in Triple-A ready to pitch in the major leagues at the drop of a hat. Fans see this with the impending vacancy in right field, and feel the Yankees should deal from a position of strength and go after a cost controlled, young stud right fielder. I’m here to tell...
YES MEN: The Yankees Broadcast Team 2012
Baseball announcers can sometimes be like a part of your team. We spend so much time listening to their descriptions and accounts of the game, their opinions and their stories that we equate their voices with the team on the field. The team may change from season to season, but many announcers are there in your ear year in and year out. Some of them are living legends; Vin Scully...

Alex Rodriguez Passes Ken Griffery Jr. for Fifth Place on Home-Run List
Alex Rodriguez continues climbing himself on the home-run charts, as he now has 631 of them for his career, passing Ken Griffey Jr. for fifth all-time on the home-run list.
Rodriguez hit a homer on the first pitch of the fith inning in a game between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. A-Rod blasted the homer on Clay Buchholz, putting the Yankees’ lead up to 5-1.

Are the New York Yankees too old to win the World Series?
Are the New York Yankees too old to win another World Series with the roster that they have today? How many more games can Mariano Rivera save this year? Can Derek Jeter be consistent enough to make a difference in the day-to-day standings? Will A-Rod stay healthy all season? These questions are yet to be
Curtis Granderson Loves Right Field
Following last night’s majestic performance in which he pulled three home runs into the right field seats at Yankee Stadium, it should come as no surprise that Curtis Granderson is putting up eye-popping numbers to the pull side. He will enter play Friday with 11 hits — including six home runs — on 24 total balls in play hit to the right side of the diamond. That’s a .458...
Yankees ruin Fenway's 100th birthday party
Shocker -- Squawker Jon and I had an argument over today's New York Post cover. I left a message telling Jon to check it out -- it features, of course, Alex Rodriguez hitting a homer to help beat the Boston Red Sox and put a damper on Fenway Park's 100th anniversary celebration, with the headline "100 Years of Ass Kicking."Anyhow, here is the email I received from...
Line of the Day: Curtis Granderson
April 19, 2012: Curtis Granderson homered in his first three at bats and finished the game going 5-for-5 with four RBI in the New York Yankees 7-6 victory over the Minnesota Twins. He’s the first person to homer three times in a game at the new Yankee Stadium.
Line: 5 AB | 3 R | 5 H | 4 RBI; 3 HR
My fantasy perspective: Many may have doubted whether Granderson’s 41 home runs...

Recap: Yankees blast 5 home runs in victory
At least the uniforms were cool (Photo by Jim Rogash/Getty Images)
The Yankees spoiled Fenway Park's 100th anniversary celebration with a handful of home runs served up by Clay Buchholz on their way to a 6-2 beating of the Red Sox.
Thankfully I only able to catch the game starting in the 7th inning and I missed the home run derby. So I can't say to what degree Clay Buchholz...
Flashback Friday: Fenway Park turns 100!
Today is the 100th birthday of the greatest baseball field ever… Fenway Park! Unfortunately the Sox didn’t really have the ending they wanted though losing 6-2 to the New York Yankees. The Yankees actually are the first team that the Red Sox played in Fenway Park, at the time they were called the New York Highlanders though. The first game went to 11 innings with the Sox pulling...
