Yankees right handed reliever Jeff Marquez has been placed on the DL and is being sent back to New York to see Dr. Ahmad to evaluate his shoulder tomorrow, according to Marc Carig of the Star-Ledger. In his place the Yankees have called up another right handed pitcher Buddy Carlyle.
Marquez, 26, was a first round pick by the Yankees back in 2004 before being traded away in the Nick Swisher deal. They got him back earlier this month after the White Sox designated him for assignment.
Since that time Marquez has pitched in three games for the Yankees putting up a 2.25 ERA in four innings.
Carlyle had one stint with the Yankees earlier this season where he posted a 2.70 ERA in 6.2 innings over seven games.
Marquez is not a big loss for the Yankees, but a shoulder injury could potentially be career threatening for him at this point. So let’s hope for the best.
