Yankees Release Jonathan Albaladejo

The Yankees have released 28-year-old reliever Jonathan Albaladejo, who will go play baseball in Japan next year, according to Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News. This comes as today is the last day to add players to the 40-man roster to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. Albaladejo had no future with the Yankees so they cut him and will likely add some players to the roster soon. Albaladejo had a great season in Triple-A last year putting up a 1.42 ERA and 82 strikeouts over 63.1 innings. That apparently wasn’t good enough for the Yankees because they only used Albie in just 10 games in the majors last year even as they suffered bullpen problems for most of the first half of the season. Albaladejo was originally acquired in a trade from the Washington Nationals after the 2007 season for Tyler Clippard.
