The Yankees have finally set their 25-man roster that they will start the season with by adding right handed reliever Luis Ayala as the final man in the bullpen, according to Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News.
That spot opened up when the Yankees decided to shutdown lefty reliever Pedro Feliciano, whom they signed to a two-year $8 million deal this offseason. They contemplated adding another lefty, Steve Garrison, to the roster in Feliciano’s absence, but decided that Ayala was more impressive during the spring and they feel comfortable enough going with one lefty in Boone Logan.
Ayala did not fly north with the team as Brian Cashman choose to first test the market to find an additional reliever, but he must not have found a better option as Ayala is on the roster and will be flying to New York at some point today and will join the team again tomorrow.
