The Yankees have signed former Red Sox reliever Manny Delcarmen to a minor league contract and will invite him to spring training, according to Joel Sherman of the NY Post. Delmarmen, who will be 30 in two weeks, has a career 3.97 ERA, a 7.7 K/9, and a 4.2 BB/9 in six seasons and 292.2 innings pitched. He spent last season in Triple-A with the Mariners and Rangers system’s where he put up a 5.59 ERA, a 7.7 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 in 38.2 innings. The Yankees bullpen is currently very crowded so it is doubtful that Delcarmen would be able to make the team out of spring training without a number of injuries. But, as it goes with relievers, it is good to have a lot of them as you never know who is primed for a big year. New York Yankees: Manny Delcarmen Why You Bugging

Since my mind has been on the New York Giants and Super Bowl XLVI, I neglected to comment on New York Post Joel Sherman’s tweet Image via Wikipedia from this past Sunday, about the Yankees signing reliever Manny Delcarmen to a minor league deal. Truthfully, I didn’t realize Delcarmen still pitched because I hadn’t heard his name since he was a Boston Red Sox years ago....

Cashman, Epstein happy they can now do business

Brian Cashman and Theo Epstein say after years of being on opposite sides of baseball's most bitter rivalry, they are looking forward to being able to make deals with one another. The Yankees general manager and the former general manager of the Red Sox appeared together at a forum Tuesday at Sacred Heart University. The 38-year-old Epstein, now president of baseball operations...

Curtis Granderson Notes the Growing Parity in the American League

BOSTON –– Like most baseball aficionados, Curtis Granderson monitored the Prince Fielder bonanza in the offseason. When the former Brewers first baseman inked a nine-year deal last week with the Tigers, Granderson -- who spent six seasons in Detroit -- lauded Fielder and his former club for the shocking marriage. “The best thing was everyone was like ‘Wow’,” Granderson...

Kuroda, Not Pineda, is Poised for Breakout Year

The deal that sent Michael Pineda to the Yankees has made him the talk of the rotation, but the real breakout candidate this year could be free agent Hiroki Kuroda. Kuroda is 36, so calling him a breakout candidate probably sounds odd; pitchers that are already past the age of 35 don’t normally improve significantly. He is, however, entering his fifth season in the States...

Yanks Sign for Red Sox Reliever Manny Delcarmen

The last time we saw Delcarmen he put up a 4.99 ERA in 57 appearances for the Red Sox and Rockies in 2010. He did not pitch in the big leagues last season

Yanks take shot at Delcarmen

The Yankees signed former Red Sox righty Manny Delcarmen to a minor-league deal yesterday. The 29-year-old could add depth to their bullpen, but he hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2010, when he spent time with the Red Sox and Rockies. Delcarmen pitched in a combined 26 Triple-A games...
