The New York Yankees have brought back a familiar face, signing pitcher Chien-Ming Wang to a minor league contract.
The Yankees said Saturday that Wang would report right away to the minor league complex.
Wang, who turns 33 later this month, was originally signed by the Yankees in 2000. He went 55-26 with them during five seasons, and was a 19-game winner in consecutive years.
Wang has been slowed by several injuries since then, starting when he injured his foot while running the bases in 2008.
The right-hander from Taiwan went 2-6 with a 6.68 ERA in 10 games with Washington last year. He spent the last three seasons with the Nationals.

Derek Jeter is still experiencing soreness in his ankle and it appears he will be on the disabled list when the Yankees begin their season.
Dear madam or sir,If I were you, I’d buy one of those authentic Yankee Stadium $18 rain ponchos, the souped-up garbage bag liners, and wear it everywhere. Because vegetables could be flying, and some will be on target. Don't worry about tomatoes. But an acorn squash, that can really hurt.If I were you, I’d hire a taster. And a guy who carries caged canaries. And one of...
The Angels reportedly have agreed to trade Vernon Wells to the Yankees. Wells was a disappointment during his two seasons in Anaheim.
Is Cano or Cespedes going to have the better year?
Robinson Cano has been one of the best hitters in baseball over past several years. His three year averages: .311/.370/.539, 30 HR, 107 RBI, 104 runs, and 5 sB. The 30/100/100 mark is a milestone and when someone averages that over three years in an increasingly pitching dominated era, it’s incredible. He has finished 3rd...
Derek Jeter's ankle will keep him out of Major League exhibition games for the rest of spring training. He will play only in minor league games the rest of the way out. The move comes after Jeter felt soreness in his ankle and an inflammation was discovered.
Craig Calcaterra of NBC Sports says the move to have Jeter play in minor league games could be strategic. By...
Bryce Harper has been scratched from the Washington Nationals' lineup because of swelling in his left hand.
Harper was scheduled to bat third and play left field against the New York Mets on Saturday, but manager Davey Johnson told Harper in the morning that he would not be playing.
Harper was jammed on a pitch by Drew Smyly of the Detroit Tigers on Friday, and Johnson took...
One week from today, the Washington Nationals season will be underway. After the best season in their history, the Nats will try to exceed expectations with a team that many expect to win the National League East, and the NL on the whole. How can you possibly exceed those expectations? I’m not sure, but this team sure seems poised to do so.
When the 98-win Nationals...
Dave Nichols of District Sports Page organized the 2013 Washington Nationals rountable this year, where a few Nats bloggers (including me) were asked to make predictions about the coming season. It's a seven-part series, and I'll be crossposting the links here as well as my answers to each of the questions.
In case you missed it, part one is available here. In part two...
Just Stephen Strasburg icing is wrist in the bottom of the fourth after getting drilled in the hand/wrist by a Prince Fielder liner. No big deal.
Well, the good news is it was his non-throwing hand...and he finished the inning...and he came out to pitch the fifth. But for a second there the 2013 season flashed before our eyes...

Sergeant Gunnery Hartman/Davey Johnson is baseball’s best manager. We only get one more season of him.
Any conversation about baseball’s most-loaded team must begin with their R. Lee Ermey style manager, Davey Johnson. Johnson is baseball’s finest manager, having been perched on dugout top steps since Small Pox was a problem; he’s seen more baseball than any living man has...
Prince Fielder had the hearts of Washington Nationals fans everywhere racing last week when he ripped a line drive back up the middle and off the left (non-throwing) wrist of ace pitcher Stephen Strasburg.
On a 1-1 pitch in the top of the fourth, Fielder centered up a Strasburg pitch and laced it just to Strasburg’s left. Washington’s pitcher, however, happens to fall off the...
The Nationals made a few big moves this winter to help an already talented team. Were their moves enough to counter what the Braves did?
