(Photo credit: Mark LoMoglio) New York Yankees 5 — Boston Red Sox 2   The Yankees committed two errors but the two errors by the Red Sox were big in today’s 5-2 win.   The first error committed by the Red Sox came in the 6th inning with one on base already. This would be a part of the bases becoming loaded for Eduardo Nunez. The Yankees notably sloppy defensive infielder is still swinging a good bat as he hit a single into right field for the Yankees first run of the game. Another error in the inning would bring in the third run for the Yankees in a 3-run 6th inning. Back-to-back doubles, one by JR Murphy, would bring in the Yankees fourth run and a 9th inning home run by outfielder Thomas Neal brought in the last run of the game for the Yankees. Brett Gardner got a hit and a walk today, extending his Spring hitting streak to 6, all of the games he has played in.   Adam Warren started today’s game and gave up 1 run in 3 innings of work. Power-hitting first baseman Mike Napoli took Warren deep for the only run off of the 25-year old right hander. The pitcher to follow Warren, Jose Ramirez, got in and out of trouble in 2 of his 3 innings of work but managed to keep the Red Sox off the scoreboard. Only the last pitcher of the game, Kelvin Perez, had difficulties as he walked 2 and would let a run in on a wild pitch.   Win – Jose Ramirez Loss – Joel Hanrahan   Notables Yankees *Thomas Neal – 1 for 1, R, Solo Home Run (1) in the 9th, RBI (1) *JR Murphy – 1 for 1, 2B, RBI (3) Red Sox *Mike Napoli – 1 for 2, R, Solo Home Run (1) in the 2nd, RBI (2) *Jarrod Saltalamacchia – 1 for 2, 2B

Yankees GM breaks leg skydiving

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman gave skydiving a try on Monday, and he loved it so much he went back for seconds. In retrospect, Cashman probably wishes he had just kept it to one jump. As John Harper of the NY Daily News shared with us, Cashman went skydiving with the Golden Knights of the US Army on Monday at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida. After feeling the...

Brett Gardner ready to shine in center for Yankees

Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson fractured his forearm a mere five pitches into Spring Training. Some fans are nervous about what’s going to happen with the Yankees after already losing Alex Rodriguez for at least half the season, and with Nick Swisher, Russell Martin, Eric Chavez, and Raul Ibanez all finding employment elsewhere, the Yankees have lost over 100 home runs from...

Toronto Blue Jays 3 — New York Yankees 10   Ivan Nova pitched 2 scoreless innings in today’s 10-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, ending their 7-game losing streak…in Spring Training.   Brett Gardner should start the season right now. Ichiro Suzuki Involved in 3 Car Accident; SUV Totaled

The New York Yankees haven’t had a whole lot of luck in recent months. Alex Rodriguez is out for the foreseeable future with a hip injury not to mention having his name involved in new steroids allegations, they failed to improve the team during the off-season, and their leading home run  hitter Curtis Granderson suffered a broken arm in a spring training game, so you could say...

Girardi flip-flops on Granderson-Gardner fielding switch

It looks like the Brett Gardner-Curtis Granderson experiment in centerfield has concluded even before it really got started. Gardner started in left field Sunday — even with Granderson out of action with a broken forearm — with Melky Mesa in center leading New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi to admit that the whole idea of flip-flopping their positions this season is basically...

Spring Training Game 9 Lineup: 3/2/13

The Yankees (1-7) will play the Detroit Tigers (3-4) this afternoon down in Tampa, Fla. Righty Ivan Nova, who is competing with David Phelps for a spot in the starting rotation, will get his first spring start. Matt Diaz will get a chance out in left-field, while Chris Stewart will be behind the plate. Minus Derek Jeter, this is as close to an Opening Day lineup as you can get....

Yanks' Cashman to parachute with Golden Knights

Brian Cashman's "significant offer" to Robinson Cano may be the biggest leap of faith he has taken over the past few weeks. At least until the jump he takes Monday morning. The New York Yankees general manager will parachute over Miami early that day with the Golden Knights of the U.S. Army to raise awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project. "It's an opportunity...
