The Bronx Bombers surpass the $200 million mark in Luxury Taxpayments, select "read more" to see year-by-year figures The bill collector came calling today for clubs in Major League Baseball that broke the Luxury Tax threshold for the league. And, as it has been in every case since the process was put in place by the league, the New York Yankees were hit with the highest bill. This year, the Yankees will pay $13,896,069, the lowest amount the Bronx Bombers have paid since 2003 when they paid $11,798,357. Last year, the Yankees paid $18,029,654. The only other club that will have to pay the tax this year will be the Luxury Tax is the Boston Red Sox at $3,430,810, down from $1,487,149. The Red Sox have paid the tax designed to put a damper on spending a total of six times since 2003 when the current system was put in place (2004-07, 2010-11). The total they will pay this year is the third-highest behind only 2007 ($6,064,287) and 2005 ($4,148,981). But...
