Since the Yankees signed him, Mark Teixeira has been their no. 4 hitter behind Alex Rodriguez. However after another mediocre (by his standards) season and another great season by Robinson Cano (for anybody’s standards) manager Joe Girardi finally did what is probably long overdue, he swapped the two in the order. Last night was the first time the Yankees went with a lineup that included Cano batting third and Teixeira batting fifth. From what it looks like, at least versus right handed pitchers, that will be the lineup they go with from now on. “I told Joe, not only am I for it, it’s a great idea,” Teixeira told the Associated Press. “Left-handed, my average isn’t where it should be, and Robby’s had a great season. He’s hot.” Teixeira’s numbers have dropped in each of the three years he has been a Yankee since a career year in 2008. His first year in Pinstripes he hit .292 with a .948 OPS.
