ST. PETERSBURG—Alex Rodriguez made sure to close out the regular season with some fireworks, slugging a grand slam and a three-run homer in a 10-run sixth inning to vault the Yankees to a 10-2 victory over the Rays on Sunday.
New York’s Major League-leading 103rd victory of the season was highlighted by the long ball, as Rodriguez’s three-run homer off Rays starter Wade Davis helped set a new franchise record with the Bombers’ 243rd roundtripper of the season.
The Yankees hit their 243rd homer of the season, breaking the team record that has stood for over four years (2004).
Alex Rodriguez hit two homers and drove in seven runs. That put him at 30 HRs and 100 RBI, continuing a streak of 30 HR/100 RBI seasons going back to 1998 when he was 22.
