NEW YORK—The Yankees took a play out of the Angels’ speedy playbook on Monday, as Brett Gardner took third base on an eighth-inning double-steal and came home on a throwing error to help secure a 5-3 victory at Yankee Stadium. Gardner entered the game as a pinch-runner for Mark Teixeira after Tex’s third hit of the game, a ground-rule double, and a walk to Alex Rodriguez chased Angels starter Jered Weaver. With Darren Oliver working to Hideki Matsui, Gardner swiped third on a head-first slide and raced home as catcher Mike Napoli’s throw went into left field. I thought Joba pitched better today, which was good to see.  Any time the Yankees can beat the Angels we should be happy.
