INSIDER: The Yankees dropped their third straight and lost 4-0 to the Braves.

ON THE MOUND:

Chien-Ming Wang pitched pretty decent tonight. He had the one bad inning, a three-run third, but had a good sinker with good velocity (92-94), threw strikes, and was very economical. In five innings he allowed three runs on six hits, walked one, struck out four, and threw 42 of his 62 pitches for strikes.

Wang was taken out after just 62 pitches because Joe Girardi decided the 6th inning with one out in a three run game was time to use Hideki Matsui. Matsui did walk to bring Derek Jeter up as the tying run, but he banged into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

Phil Hughes had another impressive performance out of the bullpen, pitching two perfect innings and striking out two. He once again had a great fastball which averaged 94 and topped out at 95.8 and a nasty curve that he was throwing for strikes. Hughes threw 27 pitches, 17 for strikes.

David Robertson pitched one inning and gave up a solo homer to Brian McCann.

THE OFFENSE:

The offense couldn't hit with runners on and pick up the big hit. They went 0-for-8 with RISP and they left 11 men on base as a team. Nick Swisher, Mark Teixeira, and Alex Rodriguez - the Yankees 2-3-4 hitters - combined to go 0-for-12 with a walk on the night.

They had plenty of opportunities off Braves' starter Tommy Hanson who allowed nine base runners in 5.1 innings. In the second inning they left the bases load, then left two on in the third, and then left them loaded again in the fourth. After Hanson came out of the game, the Yanks couldn't get anything going against three Braves relievers.
