Via Christian Red of the Daily News (props to RAB):
According to a source familiar with the negotiations between the Yankees and future Hall of Fame closer Mariano Rivera, the 41-year-old will sign a two-year deal believed to be worth $30 million by Friday night.
According to Red and an unnamed source, another team offered Rivera a 3-year, $51M contract, but the now 41-year old closer wanted to “remain loyal” to the Yankees. Perhaps. I don’t quite see the logic there, though. Why did he choose to sign so quickly if such a deal existed? It’s not like Mo gave the Yankees any hometown discounts in the past. Anyway, assuming Red’s report is accurate, it looks like the greatest closer of all time will remain in pinstripes.
In other news, my apologies for the lack of posting. I’ve brought on another writer to help me out, though. His name is Ken Bruno — he used to write for Forbes, actually — and he’ll begin posting shortly (he won’t be a regular contributor, however).
