ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Michael Young hit a two-run homer and had four RBIs to back Derek Holland, leading the Texas Rangers over the Seattle Mariners 5-3 Thursday. Young put Texas ahead with an RBI single. Then with the Rangers leading 1-0 in the fifth inning for the third straight game, Young hit an opposite-field homer into the first row in right for a 3-0 lead against Jason Vargas (1-1). Young added a run-scoring single in the eighth off Erasmo Ramirez. Holland (1-0) allowed two runs and five hits in 7 1-3 innings, struck out eight and walked none. He extended a scoreless streak by Texas starters to 22 2-3 innings before Alex Liddi's RBI single in the sixth. Kyle Seager added a 438-foot homer into the right-field upper deck in the seventh. Ian Kinsler had three hits for Texas, including a two-out RBI double in the seventh that gave the Rangers a 4-2 cushion with closer Joe Nathan unavailable after pitching on consecutive days. Already at 102 pitches after seven innings ...

Rangers' Harrison handles Twins' with ease

MINNEAPOLIS Yu Darvish is drawing all the attention in Texas these days, but there's another member of the Rangers' rotation who should be getting a slice of it.With an eight-inning, one-run performance Friday against the Minnesota Twins, Texas left-hander Matt Harrison improved to 2-0 on the season. Combined with his six scoreless innings in his season debut against the...

Napoli OK after getting hit, but out of lineup

Mike Napoli was out of the Texas Rangers starting lineup Wednesday night, but not because the catcher was hit on his helmet with a pitch the previous game. Napoli said he was fine Wednesday. Manager Ron Washington said the reason Napoli wasn't in the lineup was because it was Yorvit Torrealba's turn to catch, and that Napoli was available to play. Even after getting hit...

Kinsler is sticking around for awhile

I forgot to mention today’s good news in my game post, but this is probably worthy of it’s own entry anyway. IAN KINSLER IS A RANGER FOR FIVE MORE YEARS! Yes, that deserves all caps.  Because I was definitely shouting it in my head. News of the extension began making its way around the interwebs on Monday night.  Five years for $75 million.  The contract begins in 2013, with...

Nathan reflects on time spent with Twins

MINNEAPOLIS Joe Nathan isn't the first former Twin to visit Target Field, nor will he be the last. But that didn't make Friday any lessodd for Minnesota's all-time saves leader. After seven seasons and four all-star games with Minnesota, Nathan was a visitor at Target Field for the first time Friday when his Texas Rangers came to Minneapolis. "It definitely felt...

Line of the Day: Neftali Feliz

Neftali Feliz pitched seven shutout innings in his first major league start as the Texas Rangers held on to a 1-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners. Feliz allowed four hits, two walks and struck out four. His previous 154 appearances were all in relief, compiling 72 saves in 81 opportunities since 2010. Line: 7 IP | 4 H | 0 ER | 2 BB | 4 K; W (1-0) | QS My fantasy perspective: Feliz’s...

Fantasy Baseball Daily Picks: Kendrys Morales, Adrian Beltre, and Others for April 11th

As you know, I love fantasy baseball. In fact, I find it to be at least ten times more fun and challenging than fantasy football. Adrian Beltre is locked in at the plate right now and is a great option for any daily fantasy baseball league. (Photo by Keith Allison on Flickr via Wikimedia Commons) In my experience, the roster and lineup management cream usually rises to the top more...

Fantasy Baseball Daily Picks: Haren, Hamilton, Holland, and more

There are inauspicious debuts and there are absolute, abject failures. My first foray into daily baseball picks yesterday was clearly the latter, at least based on results. You know what they say about best laid plans, and so do I: they sometimes go awry. Josh Hamilton is a great start any day; when the Rangers are playing at home, he's a must-start even in hi-cap daily leagues...

Rangers-Twins Preview

Since opening two years ago, Target Field has been a house of misery for the Texas Rangers. While they appear to have the right man taking the mound to pick up a rare win there, their offense may be the bigger concern in Minnesota. Scheduled starter Matt Harrison tries to lead the Rangers to their second victory at Target Field in Friday night's series opener against the Twins...
