Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. There might be some Red Sox position players and pitchers scaling back on playing time and catching up on a little rest after John Farrell’s bunch clinched their first AL East crown in six years on Friday night. Clay Buchholz won’t be one of them. Buchholz, who missed three months with a neck strain and inflammation in the bursa sac of his pitching shoulder, was able to increase his pitch count again since coming back from the disabled list, but that small positive was overshadowed by the right-hander’s first loss of the year in a 4-2 defeat to the Toronto Blue Jays last night at Fenway Park. The 29-year-old needed 106 pitches to get through six innings, as he surrendered six hits and three runs (two earned) while walking two and striking out only two. Buchholz had won 11 straight to start the season, and the Red Sox’ lead over Oakland for home-field advantage throughout the postseason shrunk to 11⁄2 games. “I told (Farrell) I could go back out (to pitch the seventh) if he wanted me to,” Buchholz said. “But it was like a 15-20 pitch jump from last time out, so I felt as good in the sixth as I did in the first.” Herald: Buchholz suffers 1st loss of '13 I knew I would jinx Clay when I said he would not lose a game this season. I'll take full blame. For those who saw Clay's first imperfection of the season and is now worried, don't be, he is fine. We will still hear guys call up WEEI and make statements that he is not going to be a reliable #1 starter in the playoffs, and this will start a downward turn. People I love to laugh at. Will it start a slump? No. It wasn't a bad outing at all. Six innings, surrendering only 2 earned runs, and 6 hits. If Mark Buehrle gave up just a couple more runs, Clay may have had his 12th win.
